Hi ....

me and a few mates are looking into doing up some cars at the end of the year.. and heres a wish list we have....

im just hoping some of u guys have either done some of these conversions or know some info on the process .. like whats involved, price involved, any problems... ?

a 304 efi (VN up) into a VK ??
a Lexus quad cam V8 into a VH ??

AND A LS1 into a VH ?????

and if u could break down the price list it would be much appreciated... cause we have a few engine prices but have no idea on the conversion and labour costs ???

thanks

Easiest would be 304.

Most expensive would be LS1

Lexus would be the most interesting.

If your paying someone I'd hazard a guess that the 304 would be cheaper than the lexus V8, less custom components, things like engine mounts, exhaust available off the shelf. Probably would have better resale value with the 304 in it if thats of any concern.

PM VKLS1, he is in the process of making a LS1 powered VK, might be able to help you with what you want to know...

if ur gana use a 304 in anything use the vn engine trans combo with the matching computer. don't use the vr onwards computers or trans as u will need the vats (vehicle anti theft system) disabled in the eprom, not hard just extra $$$$, and the trans speed sensor is slighty different.

has any one done an ls1, if so what transmission what used,
does the t56 from the ls1 line up properly in the trans tunnel
how hard (expensive) was it to fabricate the engine mounts and crossmembers
where did you locate the computer (in the engine bay)
how hard is to set up the computer in a VK
did u use the stantard vk rack?
how hard (expensive) is it to fabricate the headers in order to get the exhaust pass the rack
where there any other issues relating to this conversion that i have over looked?

Any help would be greatly appreachated

Yeah thanks for the thoughts....
i sent VKLS1 a PM and am eagerly awaiting a reply :)

i have a sinking feeling its going to be a Friggin expensive proposition though

-yeah i had heard about the anti-theft stuff on the VR's and onward..... but i heard its not to hard to get around....

Jesus VK_Calais has gone nuts with the questions.... hope someone has enough knowledge to help out :)

A lexus engine would be nice but if i did that im pretty sure i would want to twin turbo the sucker..... lol always thinking of more power... and i hear that its a lengthy and too expensive job

putting an LS1 into a VK aint cheap... i think VKLS1 has already spent in excess of $10k doing it and he is far from finished (and he got the LS1 motor pretty cheap too !!)

;) Nice to see some interest in puttin an LS1 in an pre-VT commodore.

Insane is close with what I have spent so far. (15K  )

I'll give you a short runaround of what 'may' be required. Engine mounts to suit the engine into the cars xmember. Sump modifications. Gearbox crossmember. You may not be able to run power steering. (I am currently working a way around this) ATM I have the non assisted rack on my vk) Tailshaft sizes would need to be fixed up. A VL Turbo or a 9 inch is recommended due to the torque that the LS1 produces.

Now thats just driveline.

Now for the hardest part. The computer. I have worked out a way of gettin the LS1 wired up. It is being done by www.injectedholdens.com (old mate of mine). At the moment He is workin on the loom to suit my car and once he has finalised everything, it will go into production on his website. Stay tuned!!!

www.carcoders.com will be doing my PCM to suit the VK (eg remove the link to the BCM plus more power :D :D (lets say something past the 200 rwkw mark - STOCK !!! )

My website www.VKLS1.com is down atm and its going thru a refresh (bloody telstra bigpond) Ill post in here once its up and ready for everyone to view.

Til then

Cheers

Tom

the 304 would probly be easiest if a GOOD motor was found at the right price....but what woiuld you prefer, some ~10 year old pushrod motor or some ~3 year old quad cam Lexus power :D.....also expect the lexus to have less than 60,000ks on it.
