Volvo Question -> Forg?

Hey,

my sister has an 88 Volvo 240, Automatic Sedan, with Electronic Overdrive (and funky cheap seat covers which add 5rwkw im told)

The Overdrive lockout system is failing. It is intermittent, and the dash light blinks quickly (usually under load) and I can hear what sounds like a relay opening and closing really quickly in the mid-dash region

I removed the switch (in the gear knob_) and this didnt fix it, eliminating the switch.

When driving with the system in lockout, the problem does not seem to manifest itself.

The car gets very confused when this happens and it is in overdrive!

Any ideas on what might be malfunctioning?

Does anyone have any 240 Electrics service manuals?

esteban we had the same probs with our volvo.......

the issue is a relay in the dash its about a 1.5cm cube...... its buggered.... youll need 2 replace it..... the actual job of doin that is pretty quick just gotta take of some dash panels (didnt do it myself tho) .... im not sure wether you could run the car without it? havent really tried...... and im not sure bout cost either

cheers, so it might be a common problem. I will see if i can get the relay today then, coz the car has a 4 hour drive planned, and without overdrive, it would take her 5 hours i imagine.

brothers camry had the same problem. i think it was just the relay
