Hey all,

I need an aftermarket ECU to run my project car's engine.

it runs quad throttles, and will not be getting forced induction at any stage in the future.

my priority is tuning resolution, coupled with ease of setup.
the engine will be dynotuned of course, and I won't be fiddling with it once it's done.

contenders are offerings from Autronic or the haltech e6k.

I'd appreciate info on either maker's gear, and comparisons if possible.

thanks,

Justin...

Justin,

Any particular reason why you want to go aftermarket? I am running a Motec M4 on my silvertop and if I had it again I would have stuck with the factory computer. Sure, an aftermarket computer may give you a bit more power however, the problems I have had with the cold start idle up, air con idle up etc. make me regret going aftermarket.

If you must go for an AM computer, I suggest you get one which had enough auxiliaries to run the cold start idle up etc. Don't forget you need an auxilary to run the VVT as well.

Both systems should do an excellent job, but I don't know about Autronic handling a 3-wire BAC idle control, such as the Toyotas have, but otherwise should be OK.
The E6K will defintely do the idle control, VVT, and anything else you can think of.

If the 20v is stock, then it's hard to beat the factory computer. The Motec will do just as good a job though, but will need some work with all those things that are the problem for Daniel. They can be tuned to pass emissions testing, so that should give you an ide aof how precise they can be. It'll run the air-con idle-up, VVT, etc, all no probs.

The Autronic is a much better box than the Haltec, though it costs a bit more and the instructions included are almost non-existant. Unless you've got a lot of help it's be rather difficult to work it all out. (So I hear)

Oh, and just for interest's (and budget's) sake. The 20v runs really well on a Microtech...cold start and all. My mechanic has done a couple, he even taught the Microtech guys how to set them up for other customers.

'Tis worth another look.
