View Full Version : vlt modification advice
i want to do up a vl calais turbo as a 2nd car. i want it to run mid 2 high 11's. i would prefer it 2 be manual. What mods would i need 2 do and will the stock motor need 2 be touched or not.
would a big front mount intercooler/ t3/4 turbo/ 2 extra injectors/ 3 inch exhaust be enough or more on top of that.
i want 2 retain optimax as the fuel.
what manual boxes can u run behind them?
thanks
sir
its relatively easy to get a vlt running quick as you probably know. as a basic rundown id suggest getting a decent rebuild done , forgies if you want? , but there are lots of fast vls with stocko pistons. port n pol of head helps too, youll need atleast a t3 hiflo or a t4 turbs backed by a 3in exy. coolers? not so much as a big f/m but one that will give good flow rates with minimal lag/drop of boost. get yourself a set of bigger injectors - bosch 036 maybe , thatll be good enough for you not to need any extras and a higher flowin pump. and get a good dyno tune for it. this sould be good for a low 12.
not to familiar with good manuals for it as there have been numerous ppl get the mx7 rebuilt to cope with high hp but have failed. get an auto , if your lazy like me anyway. cheers
what auto do u sugest. what bolts up without to much drama. not keen on the stock 4 spd.
actually the stock 4 spd is good , as long as its a original turbo auto and you get it well rebuilt. you can get a trimatic conversion pretty easy but i dont know the costs involved.

But I'd like a 4spd for crusing and stuff.
