Any ideas on the practicality/legality of this conversion?

Would I be the first? :)

How much does a stock S13 weigh? It might help if you tell us which state you're in as well, since the rules are different everywhere.

Stick with Nissan, ie. the VH45DE, they are about $1500-$3000

VH45 is a big engine but EDO said they did a test fit of one in a S14 bay and it fitted so it should go in the S13.

If you put a turbo or two on it watch out! A guy in NZ is doing that and has made some big power (as you would expect).

When I was buying my 4.5L landcruiser motor, there was one of the infiniti(y?) motors for sale too. It was a very wide motor-reminicent of the lexus obviously-and it was a beauty. I think it had a 100mm throttle body and the factory exhausts were welded mandrel stainess units-NICE. All in all a very nice looking bit of gear. With the gearbox-and in wicked nick-he wanted $2400!!! If It wasnt so wide and putting blowers on it so hard (I already have one turbo and needing a second one for another 1600 bucks seemed a bit silly)-I would have bought it instead. I reckon that in stock trim in a silvia it would be a weapon. It's just that I reckon the exhausts would be a bit tight-but I'm only guessing really. In a silvia I wouldnt even bother with turbos. A nice set of headers (the factory ones are nice, but are clearly meant to choke the motor a bit-the pipes were TINY-to keep it at the 206 kw limit.) a set of cams and an autronic or similar and it'd be a filthy set of wheels! If you really want it to fit-It'll fit no worries!

That was at Port Road commercial in south australia.

Cheers
Sean

I don't reckon that you bother with the turbo's at all. There's a guy up here who runs a lexus V-8 in a class 1 off road buggy and man you should here this thing. Everything is stock except the exhaust and computer and when we first heard it, we thought someone had a F1 car fanging thru the bush. Big horses too. He swapped from a 6 cyl porsche turbo to the lexus and reckon's that the car is quicker cause of the torque from the 8. And the fact that he was doing 3 engines a year with the porsche at around $3000 just for the piston kits.
