just whacked the rb20 non ball bearing turbo onto my ae86. It came off a Laurel or something and is plain bearing, not BB.

Hence, being plain bearing i was told a 1.5mm hole in the oil supply line as a restrictor would be fine. this is the situation..

When idling the car is fine, no smoke at all..

Give it a rev.... nothing..
another rev.... a bit of white smoke ( hard to tell exact colour at night)
another rev.... a bit more white smoke
another rev.... a small puff of white smoke
another rev.... a bigger puff of white smoke .
let it idle... smoke slowly dissapears.

Its not like the cars on fire amount of smoke, but u can tell its burning oil somewhere..

Apart from that, the seems to be smoke coming off the turbo housing, but i cant for the life of me see a leak anywhere.... oil supply i tight as, and is not leaking...

Keep in mind that the 4age runs 100psi of oil pressure at 4000rpm and above, do i need a smaller hole to relive pressure from the turbo?

Cheers

If its white smoke its not oil...white smoke is incomplete combustion or water..my guess is that by blipping the throttle you are mucking up the combustion process by dumping heaps of fuel in but the ignition keeps advancing and retarding...leading to the white smoke.

being ae_86's mate, the problem is now solved

you can get white smoke from oil not burning. Ive been through 2 turbos, both with blown oil seals on the exhaust side of the turbo and white smoke has PISSED out. I could clearly see where the oil was leaking from and hence being dumped into the hot xzaust gas causing it to go up in white smoke.

yes when you blip the throttle there is an acceleration enrichment function which dumps fuel into the engine, otherwise it will stall. If the ignition was advancing/retarding back n forth as you mentioned you'd hear the thing splutter.

Every time i burn oil (an there has been a few..all accidental) it burns black...maybe due to the amount of oil and the available oxygen....fugnose.

what was the prob?

it was a non turbo related problem...bloody crank case breather was still attached to the intake manifold. And since i am using 4age intake manifold, there in no PCV valve...

so all my boost was pressurising the crank case, then u lift off and all the oil vapour would get blown back into the inlet manifold.... and then burning.

Its all sweet now. Just need cooler sorted and another 6psi boost and she will be flying :)

black smoke = fuel
