i have a 1984 celica ra65 and wanted to know if a 2JZGTE would fit in... and if it did... where would i go to ask for information and prices for the motor swap?

i think rodboy said he had a friend with a 85 supra with a 2JZGTE... and to my memory the 85 Supra is the same shape as mine but just a little longer in the engine bay.....

ne details about this would be great...

thanks

Maybe email Norbie for initial enquiries; he'd most likely know the details, as he's in the middle of a swap into a Supra & I'm pretty sure he knows the Supra/Celica differences.

Buy a supra and it will fit.

Short answer: no, it will not fit. Not without a huge amount of fart-arsing around anyway. It will fit in an 84 Supra quite nicely though, as they have a much longer engine bay.

dam.... whats the next best thing that would fit....

isnt there another motor that produces around the same kw as the 2jz?

would that one fit??? i think its the 1jz...?

1jz and 2jz motors are almost identical in size (i think - i'm pretty sure). the 2jz's about 3mm higher than the 1jz.

Arc up the ol' plasma cutter, cut out that bloody 'orrible firewall and trans tunnel, grab your handy sheet-metal bender and mig welder, knock up a new one about ---------> this far further back... and bob is your uncle....

It should be noted that this more or less summarises my thoughts on ANY engine conversion... no point in swapping engine around if you aren't at least going to get all the weight between the axle lines...

Eg. My new project to fit a toyota century V10 into a nissan micra.

Hey skidman, thought of a 3SGTE, like the MR2 turbs.

ok if i was to get the 1g-gte would i need to change my gearbox or the radiator?

what about engine mounts.... i need to know all the things needed to be changed so i can start to get prices for items.

Harry: the 2JZ block is more like 20mm higher than the 1JZ. I have confirmed this with actual first-hand measurements. :) Length-wise they're the same though.

syn.13b: no-one said it can't be done, just that it would be a lot of screwing around. Hell, I've seen a 1JZ slotted into an RA23 so there's no reason you couldn't get one into an RA60. It just seems pointless though when it would be ten times easier to drop it into an MA60, which was designed around a big inline six.

Hotgemini: the Century actually has a V12, but it's a great idea all the same! :)

QIK180: the 3S-GTE is a great idea, but there's a fair amount of custom fabriaction work involved... it's definitely not as easy as a 1G conversion for example.

hey norbie, not trying to sound like an asshole or anything but its the same bodyshell(ma60 and ra60) so they both designed around the same 6 cylinder!!!

Wrong. The MA60 has a ~6 inch longer wheelbase, and a MUCH longer engine bay. A JZ engine will slot into an MA60 easily (I've done it), but it's a big bitch of a job in an RA60 (no room left for radiator).

well after looking around i found a front cut of a soarar with a 1g-gte

its a auto but the guy said he will gimme a manual box for it for $300 which aint bad.... the front cut is $1100 and its done 80,000km

u rekon its worth it??

so really all i have to do is change engine mounts and and fit it???

and will the engine mounts interchange from the soarar to the celica?

im so excited

Physically mounting the engine is just the beginning! The real work is the wiring and plumbing, and all the annoying fiddly bits that always take more time than they should...

Just make sure the 1G you get has the correct sump to clear your crossmember, and also make sure the gearbox has a bellhousing to suit a G series engine!

Ewwwww!!!! Not the g series..

If your gonna do it go the JZ!!! Who cares if its tight, do it!!

Even better buy a TA22 and do it!!

(If you buy a ta22 i'll help you with the fabrication part of the conversion.)

The above car would hammer. <1000 kg and 280Hp ATW. Nice

TA22 = first generation Celica (71-75).

Umm......a 1G in an RA65 is a piece of piss!!! Yes, there are a couple of them in Sydney. There are also a few 1G TA23/RA23's aswell.

but, yeah..do a 1JZ.....

im ganna stick to the 1g....

does ne one know how easy it is to make power from these motors? or are they pushed already to there limit?

1GGTE's respond well to BOOST!!! Same as most internal combustion engines......

The stock CT12's don't flow much at all, therefore are limited(serverely).

I'd still go the 1J!!! $2000 for and auto half cut.

BTW: last time someone from toymods, checked national truck spares in sydney had 1ggte manual half cuts for less than $1000.

SkiDMaN

less than $1000????

dam...

thats cheap...

then about $300 to get it shipped to gold coast.... hmm

do u know the phone number for this place?

TRD-KINGSWOOD

I have NO idea what the phone no is. I have never dealt with them. Ask on www.toymods.org.au

Keep in mind that a local 10+ Y.O. half cut is probably a smarter idea.

National Truck Spares dont have any nor are they getting anymore 1G's in stock. But the ones they did have were very good examples, cos i got one in my car! I bout a auto 1989 GZ20 Soarer 1/2 cut from them for $1000, and up util 2 weeks ago it procuced 152kw@ the wheels at 13psi.

oh, and i converted it to a manual

Here's an Autospeed article on a TA22 with a 1ggte....

1ggte's, like most toyota engines bar the 2jz, are very underrated. I hope you have autospeed membership or you won't get past the first page ;p
