Simply What is the difference between single voice coil subs, and dual voice coil subs,
Beside the fact that the dual has two, and single has one,
Q.1)i mean in terms of performance?
I know dual are usually more expensive,
Q.2) Are they bassier, or just bettter for spl?

Basically, am i bettter to go for a dual voice-coil, or just stick with a single voice-coil,
Q.3) is there much diffence?

A1: They have higher power handling, but identical DVC/SVC subs aren't going to sound any different besides from the DVC being able to play louder (with more juice used). Usually a DVC might have stronger spiders, basket etc which can improve transient response but it's purely subjective.

A2: Better for SPL. Which one to use depends on your amp configuration and how much sound you want. Given the choice I'd rather one high quality DVC sub than two midrange SVC subs.

A3: Biggest advantage is choice of wiring up to the amps. The DVCs come in different configurations of 2ohm coils, 4ohm coils, 6ohm coils etc, and depending on whether you wire the 2 coils in parallel or series and to how many channels of your amp... You can see how it offers much more flexible installations. The amps "see" each DVC sub as two subs, whereas an SVC is seen as one sub. To put a 2ohm load on an amp you would need 2 4ohm SVC subs (I have never seen 2ohm SVC subs), or you can have one dual 4ohm DVC sub and do the same thing.

there is no performance output for ahving a dual or single voice coil... its basically for wiring configuration to your amp wheather u have 2, 3 or 10 subs its basicaly so u can wire it up to your amp having a 2 4 or 8 ohm input...

So im gonna run 2 12". On a 2 channel Amp. Which will better to run, Dual or Voice, Not much Diff?
What the diff between ohms, Performance, power

depends what ur amp is? can it go to a 2OHM stable mono mode? if ur running 2 12's off of it id suggest u purchase DVC subs as u can wire them in series or parallel jsut depends what OHMage ur subs are so u can wire them...

ohms is basically the lesser the number the less reisistance of current flow so it equels more power
2ohms will be more owerful then a 4ohm load while an 8ohm load will be half as powerful as a 4ohm load
eg: 200wrms at 4ohms, if it wre 8ohms it would be 100wrms if u get me

ahrd to explain witout gettin into ohms law and that stuff.....

i have 2 x dual voice coil 15" imagine dynamic subs

they sound amazing and are able to reproduce deep notes more accuratley. they also dont have a lot of power running to them which isnt an advantage.

because i have 2 of them you can parralel them together and run them at 1 ohm. which is handy if you have "D" class amps (most are 1ohm stable) which is what im planing to buy very soon.

you wont be disapointed with DVC subs

my cousin has 2 pioneer DVC 10's and they did 138db in a ute. with a amp that is rated at 2 x 50 rms. not bad when you look at the crap powerthey get

as i said again DVC have no real advantage to SPL!!! its just so wiring configuration is easy if u have more then one sub....

I stand corrected Tomee :) Just that all DVCs I've seen in action have been in very high power applications

so because they are generally more expensive than svc subs, not necessary do they put out more bass then, is this right?

generally it is if u want big SPL then ur box dimensions must be worked on to achieve that... it does not depend purely on wheather teh sub is DVC or SVC....
double the power gives u 6db more
or maybe its 3 as i get confused???

Double the power yields 3dB increase :) And I think it was 6dB for a human to perceive the volume as having doubled.

ah yes thats it thanks tek
always get that mixed up :)
3db increase

If your gonna use only one sub, and your amp is 2ohm stable, Then ALWAYS GO DVC if you want max power,

what i did was get a dual 4ohm VC and fed bout 330wrms into each voice coil, i got a 4ch amp and bridged them
