To remove the hicas system on the s13 silvia i need to obviously remove the rear rack (ive put a different subframe in from a non hicas s13 anyway)

I think i read somewhere you can just loop the hydraulics back.

Is it possible to just leave the existing factory solinoid under the car (near the front of the subframe drivers side) and disconnect the rack from it and also the wiring harness?
This would require the solinoid to be in the closed position preventing it from supplying hydraulic pressure to the rack, which i assume it would be since it should not be functioning in state i turned it off (car not moving).

Anybody know?
Thanks
Rob

Call me stupid, but why remove it? Drag racing?

Westinghouse. There are good reasons for killing HICAS.

1) Most aftermarket steering wheels don't drive the steering angle sensor, so the system faults, causing a light on the dash and sometimes very wierd steering behaviour.

2) HICAS really sucks when you are trying to control the car on the limit. Everytime you make a steering motion (to counter understeer or whatever) the HICAS system is busy fiddling the rear wheel angle as well.

HICAS is intended to assist turn in and stability in corners for moderately competent drivers (ie most of the Japanese market) and is not well suited for agressive driving.
