View Full Version : Axel tramp
Recently noticed the 180 is axel tramping. What causes this?? and how do i prevent it. Could it be caused by bad shockies/coil overs????
Does it only happen on wet/damp roads or is it in the dry too?
Reason I ask is that my R32, which has healthy dampers and springs, really makes a nasty axle tramp effect in the left rear when the road is slippery and I get lots of spin from a standing start.
If I take off fast and get the same amount of spin on a dry surface, it just grips and goes, but on a slippery surface it sets up those nasty oscilations because it doesn't get to grip.
I have just been putting it down to "that's what happens to it in the wet" and try to drive accordingly.
Have you changed tyres lately to something that is a bit less grippy? Are your pressures too high perhaps?
If not then it is entirely possible that your dampers might be a bit shagged, or perhaps you have some wear showing up in the rear bushings allowing the wheels to flail around a bit under abuse.
cheers
Theres an axle tramp thread in

It's more than likely the shocks, but could also be the bushes.
