View Full Version : Nissan Maxima?
Was just thinking the other day about the possibilities doing up a nissan maxima, I mean its a big car with some luxury features. I hear they go pretty quick with the standard V6.
But what about the VH45de? :D , yeah I know there was a thread asking what car to put this engine into week or so ago, but what about a Nissan Maxima 96-99 models, would it fit?
VH45, If you made it rear wheel drive it would be one hellava sleeper, if you kept it front drive, would still be hellava sleeper, but you might redefine the term understeer.:)
They're not real quick off the mark but they wind out OK.
I guess they go OK. After all, I lost my licence in one a little while back :D

the yanks do some pretty amazing things with these as well so the development is there.

The US gets a 3.5 V6, with a 6 speed manual on the SE model. They list it as having 255 hp. We only get a 3.0 litre V6. I wonder why we only get the 3.0. Other than that.. it's definitely worth considering, I think
doh I was under the impression that maxima's were rear wheeld drive? :(
I believe (but could be wrong) the old ones in Japan are real wheel drive. Called a Nissan Cerfiro (i think). They do them up as VIP cars and look really good.

I am seriously considering a Max for my next car with only one stipulation: I want a manual one.
Other than that, cost will be no obstacle.

Hey mate i've got one, and i agree they r pretty quick, i've ran a 15.23 in stock trim on my second ever run on the quarter, so it's probably quicker ;), however i got s15 200sx wheels and a stez etc, i was gonna sell it for about 17500, but open to offers of course, i'm getting it lowered and maybe some 300zx brakes, so it should stop alright. i can tee up some konis and stuff as well, where bouts do u live? its a pro cruiser and i've looked after it as best i can, but if ur interested just pm me and i'll see what we can do!!
thanx :D

That's a bit like saying that the 1998 model Celicas in Japan are RWD, and they call them Supras. :) Cefiro is indeed RWD (or was, at least); but they're a totally different car, & look different too.
question,
Is the 3L V6 that came in the earlier model Maximas (the fully imported models that came here) just the NA version of the VG30det engines from the 300zx? So if i was to, say, consider a transplant for my dads car, would it just be a bolt on? :)

Aust delievered Maximas E-A32 are FF. The only Maxima (Cefiro) that were rwd or 4wd were the E-A31 Cerfiro from 88-94.

All Maximas are fully imported. The 90-94's (J30) had the single cam VG30E V6 with 122kw. The 95-99's (A32) have the VQ30DET with 142kw. The 00-02 (A33) have an improved version of the same motor and pump 157kw. All have Automatics except for a very small run of A32 manuals sold only in '95/'96. Unfortunately we don't get the US Maxs 190kw/6-Speed combo which is good for stock low 14's (even the Auto can pull 14.6 stock).
The VG30ET from the 300ZX can be put in the J30's, but its not exactly bolt-in. Theres quite a bit of custom work required to slot it in the Maxima east-west. But theres already at least one turbo J30 in Oz (with NOS) that I know of.
Because the A32 Maxima only weighs about 1330kgs its a surprisingly quick car in 5/Spd form for only having 142kw and pulls mid-low 14's with intake/exhaust and some decent rubber. Just a pity its FWD. :(
lp,
thanks for the info :). Damn i forgot the vg30det was north-south.
I dont think i've seen the VQ30det engines in the maximas here in Oz. I thought the were all NA? Is the 190kw engine a turbo six?
cheers

Your right, I must have been dreaming again when I wrote the above. I meant VQ30DE, not VQ30DET :D
That would make a sweet swap though.
The '02 US cars use the new VQ35DE, no turbo. Its basically the same motor as the new 350Z.
