View Full Version : Fj20/Sr20 Fiat 124
Hey..
Sorry for the stupid question, but has anyone done the measurements or know if its achievable... I'm looking at buying either an fj or an sr for my 124bc.. and wanna know if its possible before buying it... ?
if you can fit your wang into the exhaust pipe of the 124 the fj20 will fit in, if theres too much play go the sr
nice to see someone else thinking of doing this. i thought of it a while ago,. but dont have the funds. good luck.
ps. personaly id go for the sr. lighter and has lots more parts avaliable...thats if it fits..
the SR20 is like 15kgs lighter...not that much
the FJ is MUCH easier to run reliable high horsepower...but the SR's are as well...the SR standard injection is also alot more forgiving...depends on how u lean...
maybe even a CA?
YBS10W,
I wanna do something different to the usual... I had planned to buy a BC without engine and do it from there.. but that got stuffed around way too much so I doubt I am gonna get it.. I am going tomorrow to look at a CC 124... perfect condition, injected 2L twin cam (lampredi) 8v... only problem is front quarter damage, not too hard to fix.. so I figure I might use that as the basis for my conversion, instead of the by price of an sr/fj/ca I will do the fiat twincam as I know them best and I already have the most expensive part taken care of (injection) will source some lancia thema or fiat spider turbo pistons (reliable up to 20 psi) copper head gasket, o ring'd block.. chev big end bearing conversion.. use the existing fiat argenta injection manifold and maybe a t28 or a t03, my mates running a t25 on 5psi was dyno'd by rigoli @ 200hp with a similar setup... I cant complain with those figures.. anyways enough with my rant :)
thanks to those who replied.. tho not you closer :P
It'll fit; you can make anything fit. However, I've done the measurements, and you'll need some metal mods under there; I can't remember whether there was room to go forward, or whether you definitely need to move the firewall backwards. A friend & I were thinking of doing a joint project car so we did some tape-measure work; and CA18's, FJ20,s & SR20's were all too long to just slip into a CC's engine bay.
If you've already got the manifolds etc, then going with that motor you've got is probably the best way; who wants to do unusual stuff when it ends up being a hybrid Frankenstein-beast, anyway? :)
So Forgy is the twin cam lancia head/combination a bit more compact than the nissan engines?
The lancia/fiat 8v head is fairly narrow when manifolds are attached, the fj's head is massive.. very similar in size to the early alfa romeo twin cams..
I went and looked at the CC today.. has microtech digi 3 in it.. worked 2L.. all parts are there.. needs some reassembly.. but the front quarter is fully fked.. left hand side of radiator support is bent too.. but the guy already has a cut of a quarter .. just needs to be welded in.. I'm a little sceptical as to this.. the main reason I was gonna buy it was to save some cash, but he is not negotiable on the price.. so I will start looking for a cc body again, and just use a new mtx8 @ 1150 I cant complain as its a new computer.. damn cars !
Hey, what is that guy looking at for the car?
A friend of mine with a motorkhana car was jumping for joy the other week because he found a very rare factory injected Fiat - an Argenta, does that make sense? Anyhoo, he bought the whole car just for it's injection manifold. I'm told the ones off the Lancias are very rare too.
So, before you ditch the idea of the CC, maybe it's worth working out what a manifold is worth?
But then, if he actually wants money for something equipped with a Digi, it's probably not worth paying for; you'd presumably throw that ECU away if you wanted to make reliable turbo power?
Zac, yeah; I know the Fiat twin-cam, even with the Delta Integrale head, fits in there; according to the tape measure the Nissan engines didn't. The Nissan 4's really are big bastards, we also considered a CA or FJ for the Escort project and it turns out the Sierra/Sapphire/Escort Cosworth 2.0T is smaller. Mind you, that wide head design could be why you can push that much air+fuel through 'em, too.
Forg,
The car is a 74/75 CC, silver in colour.. interior is ok.. needs a fair bit of tidying up... the rear window hinges are snapped.. and is just pushed in there... rear end is complete, didnt see in boot to see for fuel pumps/surge tank or whatnot.. It's running a 2L.. argenta injection manifold which needs to be modified for turbo use, as the throttle body sits on the side of the plenum as opposed to front.. the argenta injection manifold isn't worth that much at all.. the best one to use is the Lancia thema turbo manifold, same as the Fiat Croma manifold.. runs a 65mm weber throttle body and is perfect for turbo.. the guy wants 2g for the car.. no rego.. needs blue slip... so aside from the front smash.. it'd be an ok daily driver.. but the d(o)gi 3 is a fuel only computer so wouldbt be worth using for a turbo application..
:)
So now the search for a good condition CC begins again :) hmmm I saw this average condition AC at the place.. I started falling in love with the shape.. front looks like an early porsche..
