View Full Version : Sorry guys some more advice
I have been talking to the guys where my stereo is being done and have decided to install the sub near the fuel tank and pipe it into the cabin.
Now they have suggested I use JL for my Sub and Speakers, the speakers are a JL VR600CS and the sun is a 10' JL 10W3D2.
I had a listen to them and the sound was great, this is not a compatition stereo just something that will be good enough for the shows in general and sound good.
The amp was another option and Price plays a bit part in this one as the stereo is nto a main importance in the car.
They gave me the option of 3 one was a JL one which was just over $1100, one was a Coustic 481QC which is 2x60+1x240w retails for $599 and the last one looked like a damn tank and it was a Kicker 600.4 which is 2x75+1x300w which retails at $849 which I can get cheaper again
Headunit and shuttle is Alpine
thanks guys
Any idea what the spec is on the JL?
The amplifier probably makes the least difference in the system, that said if you're getting decent speakers you might as well get a decent amp, although $1100 sounds steep - it'd want to be pretty good.
Haven't heard of Coustic before, only recommendation I can make is if it's a cheapie brand be cautious.
Try Clarion, they make decent sounding stuff at a reasonable price.

have you seen any of his work.......seriously speek tp Peter from soundcell in fyshwick...top operator & wont rip you off....how much are they quoting you for the install?
I will go have a chat to him LJ and told him you sent me lol
The guy that is doign my install use to be at BDL and was their head installer but got sick of it there and left
Coustic make pretty good stuff....or at least they used to!
I say...if it sounds good and has a decent warranty, go for it! :)
Trace I'm running a Kicker 4x40WRMS running a pair of splits and a 10" sub and I'm more than happy with the clarity and power..
With two channels bridged, it ends up being 120WRMS (I think) for the sub.
It cost me $400 for your reference..
cheers
Hi guys thanks heaps to all who were giving me advice, talked to the other ppl who were envolved in the stereo build and they have come up with a pretty decent mix.
System will be as follows (remember this is not a comp stereo just nice sound)
HeadUnit: Alpine CTA 1505E
Staker:Alpine CHA 1214
Amp: Alpine MRP F200
Splits: Focal Polyglass 165V
Sub: Alpine SWS 1041
All gear is being purchased from BDL car Stereo in Fyshwick have not yet decided where to get it installed
I was gonna say if you want a great amp go to Jaycar in Fyshwick, they make great amps at a great price and its just next to BDL too. I have heard response amps in a few cars and im always impressed, next amp I buy will definitely be a response unit.. Please Consider!
The newer black series could be worth a look. I've heard that the blue ones are "nothing special" :)
MS_J,
Go and check out www.caraudioforum.com and search for the stuff you are thinking of buying. There are plenty of good reviews in there and people have posted many threads on your proposed stereo equipment and have gotten many responses.
Cheers
Steve
