Dont know if this has been asked/posted before but i was wondering which ones are the best head units for MP3 playback.
Do they have stacker controls???
also one question that has been on my mind is that say you have 300 or 250 odd MP3's in one CD, how do u skip through them, say if you are listening to the first song, how do u go to the last song, press skip 250 times????
thanx

dunnow hihc ones are the best but i own a JVC deck whihc plays MP3's Cd-R and CD-RW as well.
the way u set it up so u can use it is you copy them into directories, say u got a whole heap of dance tracks, all u gotta do is create a folder and name it dance and put them all into that folder and so on and so on..... it just makes it easier for you to know what is whre
some mp3 units dont have stacker control as i dont think they make a stacker compatible with mp3 or cd-rw yet? correct me if im wrong?
biut with mp3 palyback wots the need? you have bout 150-200 songs on one cd!
Which JVC deck to did you get Tomee?

umm i was more interested in the stacker for normal CD's, but i guess if u use this folder thing u can have many CD's under different folders in the one MP3 CD
but still interested to know if it does support normal CD staker control

I not sure what you mean by stacker control but I do know that the Audio models in Japan, such as Kenwood, Apline and Pioneer maybe a few other have MP3 CD playing headunits bundled with a CD stacker is thats what you mean or stackers playing MP3 CDs?
Carrozzeria an audio line up of Pioneer also plays the MP3 off Sony Memory sticks. Apline also has a system (I think called the Apline F1 or something) which has a built in HD of sufficent memory to dump all your MP3 songs onboard.
I admit one of mistakes was not buying an MP3 headunit cos I realise I hardly ever use my MD headunit for MD just to pull up songs from the CD stacker...
/edit: PSI-70Y: I'm sure they all play normal CD in addition to MP3 CDs.

Evo Lee - by stacker control, i mean that u can hook up a CD stacker to it, be it for playing normal CD's or if the stacker can Play MP3's. I know they all play normal CD's aswell.
Correct me if im wrong but you live in Japan dont you??? We in Australia probably dont have all the models that ur naming. Although to tell you the truth i havent really been looking around much, just trying to do some research so i know what i want and wot im looking for before i go shopping for one.
Thanx for your help

PSI-70Y: I work in Japan so yeah I'm currently located here. I'm sure the models I've mentioned will eventually make it to Aust in about 12 months time. I know the Apline F1 status system was realised in Aust the same time it was released in Japan.
OK with stacker control thing you can hook up a CD/MD stacker to a MD or CD headunit provided the maker allows and the ones I have mentioned before can.
Though I don't think makers have managed to have the stacker play MP3 CDs yet. But in time I'm sure they will, but alot of them are heading towards HDD onboard the headunit like the Carrozzeria top model allows.
Here is the Carrozzeria model with the HDD, its also very pricey.
(webpage is in Japan so you may have to set your browser to read Japanese text, you may not understand but the pictures give you a good idea).

JVC KD-SH99R
Blaupunkt and Kenwood have mp3-cd capable stackers in the works, Sony already have two that are out in stores.
A few makers (Kenwood & RF) have stackers that play off other mediums, eg hard drives or memory sticks.

The Pioneer in-dash MP3 player works the same as the JVC by displaying folder names and then the ID3 info for the track inside the folder so quite easy to navigate. It is also CD changer compatible. The down side is the $1000 retail price tag!

The JVC units are great
and cheap too but the base models are not cd changer compatible
the first unit in their line up with stacker control is around the $550 - $600 mark
it also has a remote and a flip down face
it also has three sets of rcas out so you can run
front rear and subs and controll it all from the head unit
the JVC cd changers do not read mp3 disc but will read
cdr and cdrw discs
but if you have a bit more to spend I recommend the
JVC KD-LH2000 it is a smick unit for only $750 or less
if you look around a bit
have a look at their website for more info
www.jvc-australia.com
I'm after either:
JVC KD SH 707R (approx $850)
Alpine CDA 7878R (approx $1200!!!)

you can get a pioneer mp3 head unit from online USA web sites... as little at 235$ US (plus postage). so around 500 delivered, I think the model is DEH-7400MP. Anyway this would be ok to do dont ya think? The only 2 downsides I can see are warrenty issues...... and perhaps the FM/AM radio frequencys being different?
what is the JVC model that plays the MP3's?
the cheapest of course..
im am keen as mustard to get one!
the JVC KD-S785 - RRP $399.00
see http://www.jvc-australia.com/product2.asp?861
i prefer the JVC KD-SX985 - RRP $529.00
see http://www.jvc-australia.com/product2.asp?859
so many more options for so little cash

yeah i have a jvc-kdsx985
sparkly to say the least
I've go the Alpine 7878R and been very pleased with it. If your going to have say 200 songs on the CD, better to put them into a couple of folders for quicker access. Alpine does have a search function, but its too slow to go through 100+ tracks using the rotary dial to scroll through the names.
I think it puts out 24 WRMS, which is pretty good. Does have stacker control as well. But if your after something bit cheaper, look at the Apline CDA 7894RB (RRP $999).
JVC's range of MP3 headunits this year look quite good on paper as well.
Only problem is the Alpine 7878R is the wrong side of $1000 for me :(

I Bought the the JVC KD-S785 and it is excellent.. U dont need a stacker if u do cos u can have 12 Cd's on the one and then skip to each cd ( A DIRECTORY) using the Radio Presets..... along the bottom of the unit... For only 350 dollars the unit has excellent features and it saves u money for either amps or good speakers......
The next unit up is 150 dollars more and the only extra features it has is slightly improved looks and 4V Pre outs instead of 2V...
For me money is everything and i have a burner and a computer full of MP3's so i think it is the way to go.....
:)
heh true i have run out of mp3s to burn!!! :D all of my fav collection fitted on 3 cds!
