I've just finished an update of my web site, including the complete MA61 -> 2JZ-GTE engine swap story to date. I have a bunch of pics from last weekend when the engine was permanently bolted into the engine bay, finally!

Nice.. I've got mine half in (2JZ > Starion).. gearbox is bolted in after major trans tunnel mods.. need to make engine mounts now..

Are you sure the factory computer won't work without the instrument panel? I'm screwed if that's the case :)

For those who are interested (sorry for thread hijack!)

Well let's just say it will be harder to make the factory electronics behave correctly if the instrument panel is missing.... having said that, I think it's mostly the auto trans which gets upset, and by the looks of things that's not an issue for you. :)

I have R154 gearbox.. Can't imagine anything else is going to care about signals unless the speedo is connected to the ecu. I don't think the V160 has an electronic speedo output anyway so hopefully it will be ok.

Hehe.. yeah, but I don't want to pay for it.. at least not right now! Haltech ecu+install (which i've been told not to attempt coz it's very hard - don't know why!) = $2650 or there abouts.

230 pm sunday arvo a cry was heard. ( more of a splut splut followed by a phone call..) the guys had ducked out to maccas for lunch. I had been racking my brain as to why this car wouldn't
start . found the problem- connector on the ecu wasn't plugged in properly! screwed it in and hit the key. it started and ran. shut it down ( no radiator) and made a phone call.

started it again after they got back ( jon200, nalib, norbie) and jon wanted to keep going . all were amazed at my efforts. I was chuffed myself!

in short I have it 'engineered' to run but still have to work out why I don't have full instrumentation.

next step is to integrate the JZ harness into the MA61 item.

norbie has pics of the mess...

Yeah, wot he said. :)

Radiator goes in next weekend, so I'll be able to run it for a bit longer to see how it goes. I'll try to record an MP3 while I'm at it - it sounds uber-tough! :)

Good work Mr Rogers, I'm rather chuffed as well. IT LIVES!!!!

Yep-as I said-nice one. Good to see that there will be a few 2Js running about soon. With a good clutch and big turbos those motors will push full weight cars in the tens without lifting the rocker cover. Should make for a nice vehicle-a really nice vehicle.

Keep us posted

Dude, as long as you're driving around in a stock Corona, nothing you say can upset me. ;)

I'm pretty sure I know the guy who put the 1jz (not 2jz) in the mk3. He got a 1jz mk3 supra front cut from the importers, got it installed, and got one of the turbos replaced in about 2 weeks. He is supposed to have it back tonight.

It replaced the 1ggte that he had in before which was quite buggered (shagged crank).

PS. Norbie: My dad has the 5mge almost ready to start, just a couple of hoses needed now :)

I'm thinking about skipping a step, and getting the t-shirt about the t-shirt about the t-shirt done.

Oh yeah, guess who picked up a 5-speed this weekend? With a 2JZ bellhousing no less? That's right, project 2JZ is going manual! w000t!!!
