My mates and I are in the process building a suck-thru (carby) turbo motor for our bush rally car. Nothing special. Dirt cheap kind of work here! We have pretty much everything we need but we have a question about the oil return situation. I know it has to be large diameter and down hill into the sump so....

Could we remove the oil dipstick and dump the turbo oil drain via high temp rubber hose into the dipstick pipe?

And when we need to check the oil level just remove the hose and put the dipstick in for level checks? It's a pretty rough sounding idea but all we want to know is whether it would work okay. Would save us having to drill a hole and weld a pipe into the sump.

Just that the dipstick pipe is in a perfect position!!!!!

HKS makes a turbo kit for the Mx5 that drains into the dipstick tube. It's effective from what I've heard, even though the I.D of the tube is only ~3mm.

i guess its alright.. make sure theres no kinks or you will be blowing smoke on idle with a perfectly good turbo.
