just wondering how many of you guys who have had hot cars stolen have had your car recovered.
makes me thing twice about doing anything else to my car except leaving it completely stock.
personally, id love to wait around the corner after baiting some teenager to steal my stereo and proceed to use a metal bar to mess his day up.
I had my VL stolen in May less than 12 hours after it competed in it's first show. It was white, Walkinshaw body kit, 17 inch chrome, complete Recaro interior, MOMO steering wheel, huge stereo and worked 308. Out of all the cars that were stolen that weekend mine was the only one never recovered. The only thing I got back were my number plates dumped up the road from where it was taken. We think whoever took it was from out of town 'cause no one in Nowra knows who did it. if someone knew they'd speak up 'cause everyone in this town has a big mouth. What seems weird though is the plates were found by an old man two weeks after the car was taken. He walks the same stretch of road every day and didn't find them till then.My advise is keep the car as stock looking as you can unless you don't leave it out anywhere and have a good garage you can lock it away in. Maybe with a bed in it so you can sleep beside it.
My blown XR6 was stolen in Feb 2002 out of my chained & pad locked garage at home. :(
It was found 2 days later burnt out minus the wheels (18" simmons), the blower & a few other things.:(
If you plan on modifing your car, just make sure it is fully insured. That was the one big mistake I made. That leason cost me about $30,000.:(
VLL10N......... I can't beleive you still haven't found yours :(.
Did you check with the cops about the big bust they done in Vic not long ago. I know there were a few commodores there going by the pics in the papers.

here's a tip guys (who own cars that are mostly weekend toys).
Is there really a need to have the car sitting in the garage all fuelled up and ready to go ??
Is there a need for spark plugs, ignition leads, battery, wheels etc to still be in the car.
if it takes someone too long to get a car moving - wouldn't they just give up rather than risk getting caught ???
(i know about the theory of 'if they want it they get it' but there are ways to make it just that little bit harder for the scum) !!
Swifty GTi.......It's not something that I thought of until after it happened. I supose you think your car is safe when it's in MY garage at MY house.
But yeah, if it's only a weekend type car, I would now recommend that you do something like what Swifty GTi said.
Like the old saying *you never think it will happen to you*

i live in the same part of sydney as you - i have a big $$$ swift gti and a pulsar gti-r to worry about.
i'm getting the garage wired up the house alarm soon - on top of the 100 other things i have done to make them harder to steal !
Sorry to hear about ur loses...
Crash: $30 000... Shit that is a huge lose
Yeah i would recommend taking vital piece's of equipment for ur weekend warrior, and make it sumthing no so obivious... like rewire ur efi pump relay to inside cabin and remove the relay ? i don't know how safe that is... i just thought of it now to tell ya the turth.. Coz if the relay was in the fusebox, and it was missing they would just replace it with a headlights on... They ain't dumb they know how to get around things like that... But if they whole relay and connector is elsewhere.. they won't be looking for it and move on to sumthing else being the problem... Also if u moved it in cabin u could remove and replace it safely and quickly without anybody seeing.. unless they were in the car with u.... If u open up the bonnet and start fiddling its about obivious if someone is watching
Crash, the raid you were talking about, when did that happen? I know there was one in Sydney and they recovered a Walky replica but that raid happened 5 days before my car was stolen. Can you give me some details about the one in Victoria you're talking about. I know it must suck to get a burnt out shell but atleast you know what happended. I don't know if my car is out in the bush somewhere stripped and burnt or if it's in someones garaged getting resprayed etc ready for rebirthing or what. It's ****ed up just not knowing. Kinda like when a parent gets a child kidnapped and for 20 years they don't know whether they're alive some where living a normal life or if they were murdered or what. Alot of people have said to me "it's only a car", but I have no kids and my car was my passion so in some respects it is like losing a kid. Crash have you got yourself another car yet?
Also if you ever find out who does this sorta shit to cars I recommend messing 'em up big time. If they're left with the use of their lungs and partial use of their brain, maybe they'll think twice about ****ing with peoples pride and joy. I know if I ever find who did my car over they're life won't be worth shit when I'm finished with them. Not only have they taken my beautiful car, they've financially screwed me up. I couldn't get insurance and had a loan for $15 000. I've now had to borrow another $5000 to get another car so for the next 5 years I'm stuffed. Can't go on a holiday, can't afford to go out and get pissed with my friends, can't afford a wedding and most importantly can't get a house. I hope they pray that I don't find them every night before they go to bed.
VLL10N......... Hopefully I'll be getting another car over the weekend. Will only be a stock Falcon & it'll be under $10k. I am in a simalar position to you with money still owing from my XR6, but not as much as you. I had to buy a shitta to get around in so I can finally get out of that I hope.
I'll see if I can dig up some info on the bust in Vic. Let you know.
Here's the link to the thread. Not sure if it was Western Sydney or Melbourne.
Was only last month so it might be worth your while to ring the cops to see if your car was recovered. Long shot but you never know.

I feel so sorry to those who have lost their pride and joys, and to those little junkies and speed freeks who steal them, they should be shot, those theiving maggots! If my baby was stolen, I think I would be the most paranoid untrusting freak alive, so I wish those who have stolen our pride and joys bad Karmer and negative vibes, revenge will come to them one day when they least suspect! Not at all a hot car, but a story to tell (i guess)
A few years ago, my brothers VL Commode was stolen from the street (crimera rd, marsfield) outside the townhouse where we lived. No idea why someone picked it apart from the fact it couldn't be locked. It looked like crap. never washed, luxury pool in the passenger footwell etc etc.
well, one morning he went to go to work, and it was gone, called the cops and all that, didn't expect anything.
a month or two later, an old workmate who lived up the street gives me a call saying he thinks he has my brothers car in the parking lot of HIS townhouse.
All the owners of the townhouse assumed it belonged to someone else until the layer of dust was a little too thick - so my friend went to investigate.
Lucky my brother kept the car in pristine condition NOT! (man i wish there was a font universaly known as 'sarcasm') and there was crap everywhere (namely the rego papers) with his surname on it. it being a rather unique surname prompted the call to me!
Turns out that the car had been there pretty much from the day it was stolen, my brother had a tricky theft deterrent device - almost no fuel! - so they broke the lock and drove it 100 meters!
So - thanks Mr Plod for nothing - found the bloody thing ourselves (hmmm - i wonder if he ever 'de registered' the car as stolen.... could be fun!)
The old boy had his EF Falcon flogged a few years back.
We were out in the surf at the time, and some drug fuked tool decided to steal it out of the car park. We came out of the surf to find the car and all our belongs gone.
The cops found the car in about 10days time, parked in a street, a few suburbs over from the beach. The car had damage down one side, looked like it had side swiped something.
All our clothes, shoes and belongings were gone, no doubt hocked to pay for this blokes drugs.
The cops caught the bloke and he was charged. I understand he is still in gaol, as he had a pretty bad record with drugs and theft, so the judge decided to put him away for a while.
