Chaps,

Has anyone used Wolf3D version 4? I've got 3.0 at the moment, and there's a good deal if you upgrade from 3.x to 4. The guys at Wolf tell me more drivable, more tuneable, and a bunch of extra features (and outputs) to boot.

What do you all think?

A guy i used to work with a month or so ago upgraded for all the new features and was more than happy with them.
The downside however was he was commenting on the early version of software not quite being all it should be, but it can be reprogrammed as newer versions come out. Apparently plug in looms should be released soon as well, no more hack jobs :)

That all the info i have as i dont work with him anymore.

Ok, thanks for that. From what Wolf tell me, you have to change a couple of pins on the loom, but apparently this is trivial. You can't use old memory cartridges, but this doesn't really bother me either - I want a complete re-tune at some stage.

I've only ever used the Wolf v4.0 so take that into consideration when you read this.

Its a great product. Easy to install, setup and tune. It does idle control, air conditioning, boost control. I didn't use hte boost control feature. I'm running sequential injection, if that makes any difference.

Only thing that shits me, is that the fuel delivery/timing granularity isn't perfect. You can set a value which you want, and it'll force the closest possible value on you. Sure it may be pretty close, but its those little fine bits that make all the difference...

Support is however, very good. Much better than Microtech.

As always, try it, don't take my words for anything other than the ramblings of someone on the internet...

Okay, cool..

Well, obviously I'm upgrading from 3 to 4, so the installation isn't really an issue. Setup I'll probably leave to the experts, but I'd still like to be able to see what's going on - so this is a good thing. I've read the manual from v3 a lot, so I've got a pretty good idea as to where everything is.

Boost control is a good thing, I'd like that. Idle control (do you mean stepper-motor style?) also interests me. Air-con is :gay: :)

So long as it's not too bad, I don't think I'll mind. I mean, it's no MoTeC, but the pricetag is indicative of this. It seems, though, to be a better idea than the Microtech.

Yeah, the guy I spoke to was real helpful. They have a website, and it's pretty good, and the manual is good too. Sounds like they're support is 3rd only to MoTeC and Haltech..

You've been a big help, cheers!

I'm waiting unitl I have enough money then probably getting one. Mainly because the specs are reasonably good, and they are planning on doing a plug-in loom for the MX-5 :D no cutting. Plus if I loan them a car for a bit they'll offer it at basically cost price.

I'm gonna have to go ahead and kinda... agree with you on that one ;)

Might be a few weeks (months?) off, I spent all my spare cash on racing tyres, and just paid my rego... :(

Heya Chris,

A/C is not GAY. You wait till you stay in a country with an average temp of 29deg C all year round. :)

Boost control requires an extra solenoid. Costs around AUD150 IIRC.

Idle control comes through a PWM output on an Idle Control solenoid. A stepper motor sounds like it would hold either the throttle plate or a bypass around hte butterfly open at a particular position.. I don't remember reading this anywhere.

By most measures its a great product, it just seems that the tuning would be just that little bit finer if I managed to adjust those last couple of bits... *shrug* YMMV !

If theres anything else you need help with, just shout. Or PM.

G'luck,

Excuses excuses! :) Hehe, nah, living in KL I'd probably want air-con, too. Actually, I love KL, and would like to live there if I could get a job there... no idea what the performance car scene is like though!

That's not too bad. I could probably sell whatever controller is on the car to get that back..

Yeah, I did a bit more digging; I don't think it's the stepper motor type either. Oh well.. idling is for girls anyway. Real men just sit at the lights at WOT ;) actually, I drove a MoTeC'd WRX that had idle control (though not stepper motor), and it idled superbly.

Yeah, for the price it is to upgrade it seems well worth it. Granted, it's not MoTeC or Haltech; but the price is indicative of that. If I ever have serious tuning issues I'll consider upgrading, but for the meantime it should be fine. Plus, AEM give great support.

Will do! And thanks...
