View Full Version : Speaker Wiring in an EK civic
Hi Guys,
Just want to know anyone out there has run wires from inside of the car to the doors? coz i've tried but i cant get the wires through the plastic boot things that keeps the water off the wires.
also there is a plastic wire holder thing that holds the wire together and i've tried to feed the wire through there but it wont go thru, anyone have any suggestions or has done this before?
thanks
what everyone does with out rippin the door appart from the car is to cut a small slit in the robber and run the speaker wire outside the rubber boot. If you take it to the professional's they will do this as its the easiest way to do it with. Else if you want you can always use your old factroy speaker wire thats already in but i dont suggest it tho =)
if the wires inside the boot aren't bound together then you can cut one end of the factory wiring, attach the new wire to the old (without making a big knot in the middle that won't go through), and pull it through. Might work.
Thanks DEFEKM3 and Kinks but yes i have tried your sugestion kinks but the wires are bonded too tightly together and there is no way pulling the wire, as the wire i want to use is thicker than factory. DEFEKM3 i want to keep the original clean look if you know what i mean so i dont want to do that, even so there is a rectangular peice of plastic that the boot clips onto (on both ends of the boot) that makes getting the wire through a big task. DEFEKM3 you may know as u have an EG. a Audio installer in Adelaide said somthing about drilling the rectangluar plastic thing out ????
any ideas will be appreciated.
i think i knwo the rectangular clip your on about.. thats the one on each end of the boot right? one side is on the car and other on the door right? well me thinks its just another clip thats holding it in. try using a flat head screw driver and force it out but once its out it mgiht be hard to put back in *shrugz.* the only solution i see if you really want the clean look is to take the door off the car... and it would make runnin the cable though that boot much easier.
If you dont want to take the door off then just do it my way and then use black tape to wrap the wire around the rubber boot so that its less noticible... but honestly no one really notices... where my boot is i have my central locking cable, tweeter wire and mid range wire going though and i just cable tied it to the boot. it was just the easiest soultion i saw.
Thanks DEFEKM3 I'll give it another go this weekend..
Usually with the new Hondas and their pain in the ass door boots/plugs you would run a new boot if you were installing lots of new wires. Central locking + new speaker wire for instance. There is no other way to get that many wires through the stock setup.
The plug may have spare "units" in it if you can call them that; if you look at the existing wires they are divided into a grid. If there are any spare units that aren't used you drill a new hole at both ends of the boot and feed your wire through.
For this I made a tool which is just a slightly bent piece of coathanger wire with a bit of wire soldered to one end. If I need to thread a new wire through the boot I solder the end to the tool then feed it all through like that.
If you're going to take the doors off to make it a lot easier, be really careful to get it lined back up or you're going to get lots of wind noise from the seals not lining up.
