air flow sensor for gt four

Ive been told that shortening the factory piping on my gt4 after the air flow sensor will affect the performance of my engine due to the piping being a calibrated length/volume.

can anyone please clarify this for me, because i want to shorten/modify it for aftermarket intercooler piping.
