I'm after a brake upgrade for my mini-stang. I've got drilled discs at the front(in the pic), but they're not good enough to handle my goal of 300horses@wheels. Any suggestions for good/easy upgrade?
I'm getting a hilux or lite-ace diff, do any of these have good stock disc brakes and are worth getting?

Thanks
Ben

Corona struts, Peugeot disks and hi-lux 4 spots. Take a look at http://www.toymods.org.au/phill_brake/

Can be done for less than $500. And I've actually got slotted rotors on mine.

thats great, thanks, muchly appreciated!

Do u have any pics of the build/final product??

Is it a really good upgrade/or just substantial?

What about rear brakes? should i just keep the drums and modify them so they will fit on the hilux diff? or just use the standard hilux ones?
Thanks
Ben

Sorry, don't seem to be able to find any photo's. I'm sure I had some.... There was a photo of my setup in Zoom #42, in the backyard blitz section.

It was a huge improvement, especially if you can get an MA70 Supra brake master to go with it.

As for the rear, can't help you. I don't know anyone that is running anything other than the standard hi-lux drums. Apparently there are problems with doing any sort of conversion on hi-lux diffs because the wheel bearing is somehow integrated into the drum backing plate. I'm not sure of the specifics.

I would be inclined to buy Kangz setup.

The hilux 4 spot calipers are quite small (the pad area is only as large as a RA60 caliper) and the caliper itself is 6kg. This is really really bad for unsprung weight, and your handling will suffer. I have a friend with a TA22 race car, with a 350hp 3SGTE, and he uses RA60 calipers and has no problems.

I wouldn't be so sure about the pad area, GT-R pads fit the hi-lux calipers with a only a slight modification... or was that WRX pads... have to check on that.

Can't argue about the weight though, they are heavy. But are we talking about a full blown race car or a road car where the extra $900 would be better spent elsewhere and the change in unsprung weight will be totally unnoticeable?

i agree with Darren......

I have done the same conversion, but with the MA70 master cylinder. Nissan 200SX and R33 GTST pads are the same, so the amount of "race" pads you could buy are endless!!

Oh, and the only thing that was able to outbrake me at a Wakefield practice day was a Type-R Integra.........with 6 pot Alcons (?) on the front.........

Kangz: i'd like to purchase the brake set-up, but i don't want to spend that much money on just the front brakes. My limit is $1000 on brakes.

Thanks
