View Full Version : ae86 sprinter
The brakes on my sprinter are still completely stock and the car is used for track work where the brakes have become the biggest factor in keep the lap times from improving. What would you suggest fitting to the sprinter and how much would it cost (a) for the discs (and calipers if needed) and (b) how much to fit them.
I am happy to leave the drums on the back for the moment as I am looking at getting a complete japanese diff with lsd and rear discs and calipers.
Thanks.

I don't know of an easy upgrade for you, but you will need a vented rotor preferably 280mm to 295mm diameter.
Your disc is an inboard mount on the hub so clearances are a big issue. You may need to go to a Brake specialist to check it out.

The simplest brake upgrade is to the Japanese front setup, which consists of the same diameter discs but vented, and the same sized calipers.
However if you want something good, I would look in the dba catalogue for other rotors. I haven't researched this in a while, but I remember IS200 discs being a close match, and at something like 300mm they're quite a substantial upgrade. You would also want to match this with some nicer calipers - this would have to be a custom job, so it basically comes down to what you can find that will work with the disc.
Cost is probably anywhere from a grand upwards.

AE 101 s/c levin rotors and calipers.
Should be easy to find off any importer.

The AE101 (and all fwd Corollas) run a totally different setup to the AE86, so that one's a no go sorry. I had the JDM vented discs on mine and was pretty happy with it, loads of track work too. There are some guys at twincam16.com (http://www.twincam16.com) who have some big ass brake setups on their AE86s, just do a search for brakes in the tech section there.
