If anyone has had a good or bad experience with a workshop in their area please post it here.

This would help us all from future bad experiences....

Note: If you have had a bad experience don't mention it here.

I don't want to end up in the poo!....

Thanks in advance

Point taken Secoh...;)

I went through a lot of stuff in preparation for a brake upgrade on my last car and spent some time talkign to the guys at ACT Brakes in Canberra.

They knew their stuff, weren't afraid of custom work (basically it was a bolt up swap requiring custom lines) and generally were very very helpful considering the small amount they would have made doign the work.

ie I already had most of the bits and only needed them to bolt it up and rebuild some calipers with seals provided and make some lines.

Worthwhile talking to them if you have a project in mind. I dunno how 'custom' they'll go before getting nervous but they may be a good start.

I have always had good experience with Coltspeed in Meadowbank, Sydney. Ron there has been in the modified car game for years now and knows his stuff, particuarly on earlier mitsubishis.

dbasteve, you might want to get people to PM you with specific names of "bad" companies, and have them post only general experiences here for legal reasons?

yeah I found the guy's in Belconnen to be OK. I didn't ask them to do the work, just bend up the lines.

In terms of actual custom work and doing the whole job, I'd recommend Neal Bates Automotive in Hume (6260 1536..I think) or Rod Kilby of Lochleigh Enterprises (6230 2234). Rod did my caliper brackets and was very well priced and did an excellent job. Here's his work:

Oh and be careful to check about how it will effect your rego too...

I can second that comment about Rod K. He re-manufactured the caliper brackets for the girly's car, and did a damn good job for a damn small price.

Sorry Steve, I didnt mean to be a kill-joy, but poor Nick has had a nasty experience with "scum sucking bottom dwellers" and that could only be either lawyers or catfish, and I dont think Nick goes fishing much :D:D:D

So in that case, post up the names of the organisations who are good. Support the good businesses and you inherantly don't support the bad.....

surestop is excellent. i would reccomend them to anyone. Noel is very knowledgeable and his prices are more than competative. he has done a few brake upgrades for people i know and will be doing the brakes on my VX shortly.

Its terrible, the guy I would recommend for brake upgrades, doesn't do customer brake upgrades... again because of the blood-sucking parasites, er, sorry, lawyers...

Note: Hotgemini denies that he is in fact a law student, regardless of any evidence to the contrary.

The public liability and legal ramifications of upgrades are endless unless someone is willing to sign off on the engineering certificate for you.
To be hosest its a total pain in the arse.
This is why I'm looking at becoming accredited to certify this stuff so it can be done legally and correctly.
