my brakes are rooted, as i was driving in peak hour they decided to stop working!! The pedal is soft and can be pushed all the way to the floor. I noticed i had no brake fluid so i topped it up. The problem still isn't fixed!! If i pump the pedal, but, the brakes work. Any ideas anyone??

Yet people still can't understand why I think technical mechanical knowledge should be a prerequisite for getting a drivers license.
Try bleeding your brakes, check for leaks, then get back to us.

yeah thanks,
believe it or not i'm not that stupid.
i know there may be air bubbles in the brake line and i should bleed them. I also know that i may have to replace the master cylinder if replacing the brake fluid doesn't help. What i was asking is why should i suddenly lose all my brake fluid (as if there was a leak) then, after filling it up, it does not disappear (as it should if there is a leak) yet the brakes still do not work after refill!
Maybe i should have been a little more specific, sorry

It could be as simple as a loose bleeder screw on your caliper to a stuffed master cylinder. Get it checked out.

Chances are you now have a booster full of brake fluid.
If the master cylinder rear seal has failed the fluid will leak past it and either down the front of the booster or into it.
Sounds like its time for a new master cylinder
