i just picked up a set of FC3S front brakes/calipers for my hachi, the shop says that this conversion is pretty simple but requires some modifications like redrilling the rotors for 4 bolt setup, caliper relocation etc etc... i was wondering if any of u guys know any reputable shops in the sydney area that have done this conversion before...
i was thinking of the MA70 brake swap but they are only single pot calipers and the FC3S are 4 pot and 100 bucks cheaper...

I am guessing you mean RX-7 brakes.
I know it is Melbourne but if you get stuck it may be worthwhile calling Matt Douglass at Toyospares in Bayswater as he has a set of series 4 turbos on the front of his AE86 rally car.
Ever thought of volvo 4 spot vented set up? They can be made to fit inside 14" wheels if you want to stay that way

i already have them, and yes its RX7 series IV :D
picked them up for $450 :)
edit: apparently, FC3S swaps are good for AE86, from what the guy at the shop told me and from yankees i talk to on other forums

interesting...
joyride: Are you expecting to fit these behind a 14 or a 15inch wheel?
Edit: and yeah i'd say FC rx-7 brakes would be a good swap for an ae86 considering they stop my FC quite nicely and an ae86 is about half a ton lighter.. :D

well the FC brakes look pretty big, on first inspection they look to be 15inches in diameter but im sure its 14inches.
i currently have 13inch wheels on my car so i'll have to look for bigger wheels (and wider tread) :(
i'll call OZ development later in the day to see what they can do for me

well i havn't tried but i'm quite sure i cant fit anything smaller than a 15 on my FC... have u thought about using just the FC caliper and some smaller dics or something? (if u dont want much bigger wheels that is) because the FC calipers are good things.

i never thought about that...sounds like an idea... but i have the whole brake setup already... i havent had time to call OZ developments yet, i might just give them a visit since they are close to JAP performance and ICHIban...
for $450 did you get calipers and discs? anything else? also once you have had the brackets made up and the holes redrilled etc... can you please give me an idea of what the entire conversion cost you? are you going to have the same offset when your finished?
sorry for the questions but when mine finally gets on the road its really gonna need some brakes.

yeah the front pair of rotor/calipers cost me $450 at SSS automotive in Girraween NSW.
i dont have any prices for modifying the brake hubs onto my car yet and im not sure if i will redrill the rotors or keep as 5 bolts... the brakes are also rusted so i will need them machined and clean up the calipers too. i'll keep u informed about the pricing etc, i havent called any places as i was busy at work today...
im probably looking at $500 max (hopefully)
hopefully under $1000 yes, cause ive 'heard' you can buy a S4 RX7 upgrade kit for sprinters as a 'bolt on' package with the custom brackets for roughly $1000.

ok i called OZ developments just now and they quoted my $650 to install the FC3S brakes onto the AE86 KEEPING the existing hub carriers. Changing the hub carriers (to mazda FC3S) will cost $1250 installed. The guy thinks it is alot better keeping the 4 bolt stud pattern anyway.
One more thing, with the FC3S discs, you will need to find 15 inch rims... which i have to do now :(
they only require the struts off the car and installation/machining will take about 3 to 4 days.
im gona ring around a few other shops i know of in the 'gong.
i heard of this shop selling the conversion kit on toymods forum, maybe ask around there. i also believe MR20V has this conversion on his sprinter, perhaps try him. i figured they would need 15" rims but i am already in that boat :D

the FC brakes will fit under 14" rims, just... my friend has them on his AE-86 with 14" X 7" MA60 Supra rims over them.
so is that the brakes you have? if so, how much and where from?

i was given them for free. :D (dont ask)
apparently, $1000-$1200 is the going rate to have them supplied & fitted with the caliper brackets & everything.
you might wanna shop around to see how much you can get the calipers & rotors for from places like SSS or JustJap, it might work out cheaper if you can get all the gear together yourself.
damn they look horn :)
i might shop around for the rotors and callipers, prob would work out cheaper, but its finding the custom bracket that im worried about.
does any shop have them ready to go or are even the people selling the kits just making them as they sell them? does soemthing have to be done to the rotors to keep the standard offset or do they only need to be redrilled?

as far as im aware, there are places that sell the complete kit. this includes re-rilled FC rotors, AE-86 hub with slightly longer studs, reconditioned FC calipers, brake pads, caliper bracket, nuts bolts & spacers (spacers for caliper offset) & new wheel bearings. that is what was included in the kit i got . so i assume thats how you could buy it too, but unfortunately, i wouldnt have the faintest idea of where it originated from. :(
nothing has to be done to the rotors, but it will increase the track (& hence the offset) on each side by about 7-8mm. this is not a problem, as you can still run standard offset wheels. im running 10mm spacers on each side as well, with +25 offset rims. admittedly i did have to lip the front guards slightly, but the nearly 40mm of front track increase means i never understeer anymore. ;) (the rear has also been pushed out with 10mm spacers on each side too, in an attempt to even things up a bit)

i guess all you can do to try & find out who put the kit together is to ring around... i never bothered questioning where it came from, or bothered trying to find out.
i dont like looking gift horses in their mouths. :D
(just as a reference though, the calipers had those little barcode stickers on them like the ones you find on parts you buuy from SSS, and the bearings were made by CBC.)
