I am looking at uprating the fluid in the rally car (as we have uprated the brakes) and I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions. The minimum I was looking at is a DOT 5.1, so does anyone know of any decent quality brake fluids that aren't stupidly priced.

I know the Castrol SRF is great stuff, but at $130 a litre is extraordinarily hard to justify.

So far I have;

Ferodo DOT 5.1
Motul 600
Motul DOT 5.1 (This is the cheapest by far @$28 per litre)
A couple of different 5.1 motorbike fluids

I would prefer to keep costs down, but still want decent performance.

Im about to switch to Caltex GP600, a street legal (has a DOT rating) fluid very similar to AP600 from what I have heard, I dont have any specifications for you though sorry. You can get it from www.racebrakes.com.au for $32.50 per 500mL bottle might be worth a look.

It is used by V8 supercar and Sprint Kart teams so has to be pretty good.

Lucas GP600 is $70 litre
I sell my SRF for $107 litre

I've got Motul RBF600 in my roadcar (Satria GTi), it stood up extremely well when I was at Wakefield park last August. The brake discs went a lovely blue colour from the heat being generated by my not-so-suitable-for-the-track EBC Green Stuff pads. But the pedal was solid and never went mushy.

Our Alfa racecar uses AP600 fluid, and it too works a treat.

The Motul stuff is a fair bit cheaper than the AP though :) And since it's in my roadie, didn't need to have the slightly higher temp ranges of AP600

Having tried AP5.1, 550 and 600 I am now using SRF :worship: and will never go back. I used to have to bleed the brakes after every track day with the AP's but now with the SRF, I have done 7 Wakefields, one Eastern Creek and one Oran Park and I still have a rock hard pedal.

I reckon it's worth every cent ;)
