I was wondering what is considered the best way to bleed brakes?

A brake shop near me swears by gravity bleeding. Some people use the one man kit's/Earls nipples. Others use the one presses and the other releases method. Also there are the pressure bleeders too, apparently a lot of brake shops use them.

The reason for the question is that I was going to make a pressure bleeder, is it the best tool for the job???

Speed Bleeders (www.speedbleeder.com). Piece of piss.

Speed bleeder or mityvac. There are air operated and hand pump versions around and they are simple to use.

What is a speed bleeder and where can I get one? :)

I've got one of those "bleeding kits" from Repco or something, is basically a tube connected to a bottle that has a magnet on it so I can stick it to the side of the car while I pump the pedal... But yes, if there is an easier way to bleed my brakes, I'd like to know...

*edit* Have just read the speed bleeder website. Question, with my bleeder kit I don't need to open and close the valve as I go along as the tube is long enough for the bubbles to be pushed quite far down the tube and not have enough time to come back before I close the valve. Will a speed bleeder benefit me at all?

demuire - if you can do it OK with normal bleeders, the speed bleeders ( www.speedbleeder.com for those who don't know) may be a luxury. The thread sealing compound on them does ensure you don't suck any air back in past the threads, but as long as your pedal is firm and you don't keep getting bubbles in the hose, you're OK.

I don't know of a local distributor, but they will ship direct from the US, just find out first what size threads you need.

I have a feeling I do get bubbles back through the threads, but am not sure. What is the stuff they have around the speedbleeders that seal the threads and not allow the air back through? Cause in both cases (speed bleeder vs normal bleeder) you need to undo the bleeder anyway...

The speed bleeders/Mityvac create a vacuum in the line either by a hand pump or compress air supply. They are handy if you are trying to bleed brakes on your own or flush the system.

I bought one from a guy in Sydney. (Tony's Tools 0412 374 800).

Steve - Speed Bleeders are just bleed valves with a non-return valve inside them. Nothing about vacuum, pressure etc. You just bleed as normal, except you don't need your mate to open/close the valve as you stomp the pedal.
