Getting an upgrade kit for the front brakes is easy done, but I dont seem to find anything for the rear. I was thinking the otehr day or fitting STD front brakes to the rear, basically so the discs are vented instead of solid.

I was think of getting custom discs machined up. Is this possible and what would be involved in doing so? I have access to a workshop at a local uni :) But I quickly through this out the window and the cost of a solid piece of metal would cost way too much.

I then though of getting a std size 2 piece disc and machining up a custom hub to mount it. Is this a reasonable possibilty? Are you able to get a 2 piece disc in that size?

Am I on the right track? What are your thoughts on this?

Your upgrade problem may well be finding suitable handbrake type calipers to fit wider ventilated rotors. Unless you are overheating the present rotors and therefore need ventilated, a set of DBA slotted stock type rotors with good pads should be sufficient, and legal.

Plus, the slotted rotors look good.

I hadnt thought about the handbrake. What calipers are around that will fit vented disc and have handbrakes?

As for slotted the discs were always going to be slotted :)

You do know that many earlier Falcons and Fairlanes had vented rear discs, don't you?

Some of them had internal drum hand-brakes (which, IIRC, is no good to you), but some definitely had the hand-brake operating on the caliper. This is what my old RX-5 had fitted to it.

And I *think* the caliper will fit your caliper bracket (you've got one of those awful caliper brackets that's integral with the diff housing, right?).

Well he can try the earlier vented rotor calipers, but as far as I know the caliper brackets although similar will not interchange. But I have been wrong before.;)

Yeah I know the earlier Falcs had vented rear (same disc F&R) the only problem is that you cant get good pads for them that I know of.

I am not sure of the mounting of either caliper, I am just after ideas for now.

Thanks

Pads are not a concern. If you can't get Ultimates or Metal Kings (and I'd be suprised if you can't), then DS2500s cost me $220 for a set.
