Hi All
I'm wondering what sort of pads I should be running in my HQ. I run standard rotor's, calipers etc. The only thing allowed to be changed are braided hoses and the pad materials. The HQ is a race car used in the HQ series. Approx 1400 kilos. Only get 1 lap warm up before going hard out.
I currently run Bendix Ultimates but based on some comments I have read here, maybe I should be using a different pad. I am also experiencing the pads getting hairline cracks after a few races.
We normally do 6 - 10 laps in a session.
Thanks
Aidan

Aidan
I am currently doing some testing with the HQ guys here in Perth.
One of my racers is testing some DBA4000 series discs for us and is showing some very promising results. Nil wear and cracking after 80 laps so far. Pad wear is very good also
He has used the new Ferodo Formula pad compound for 3 race meetings .
As you know orig pad thickness is 13.1mm and after 80 laps he still has approx 9.2mm variable due to light taper to 11mm.
He's the current state champ here in Perth so he's no slouch behind the wheel.
The pads have been standing up well so far. His initial remark was that they seemed "agressive" but consistant thru the whole race distance. However they are not agressive on the disc. I guess a light change of driving style was in order compared to his usual pad (Ults)
He used Ultimates at the last meeting to do a comparison for us and will use Ultimates for the rest of the season for disc testing purposes.
I think he uses a set per meeting with these. I believe he used 2 sets at the last meeting due to a 20 lapper being held, whereas he ran 3 meetings on the Ferodos and still has plenty of meat on them.
He hasn't brought the discs and pads to us for checking since the last meeting so I don't have any direct comparison info between Ultimates and Ferodos yet.
He did remark that later in the race however he had to pull the handbrake up a couple of clicks to keep the pedal feel up.
I have some poorly taken pics of the pad surfaces and apart from some minor crazing they look pretty good. (Ferodos)
Expect to pay around $160 retail for these however I'm sure racer prices are in place once you find a local distributor. We sell ours to racers for $130 set.
I can follow up with more feedback once we get an eyeful of the discs and pads (Ultimates) as info comes to hand if this helps.
Cheers
Neil

Hi Neil
Thanks for that, I'd definetly be interested in any additional info. Also, we have to run the standard disc's over here as they are part of the controlled regulations.
Are the Aussie one's able to run after market disc's?
Cheers

You mean you have to buy the DBA discs in Holden boxes. We supply most of the low volume old model Holden rotors.
I'd like to see a steward pick the difference between an O.E, DBA 014 and the 4000 series.....:D

Your not far wrong Steve. I will definetly be following up on it as my rotor's are getting purple hot spots on them.
