View Full Version : Simpson Helmet Legality...
I'm speaking specifically about the 'Bandit' style that is ridiculously popular in the UK.
I assume as I've never seen a bike rider here wearing one that they aren't ADR approved?
Anyone know?
When I bought my Shoei Car helmet I had to sign a form saying I would not wear it on a public road.
When I checked them out 3-4 years ago, the whole Simpson range wasn't ADR approved... But they all had Snell 95 at the time, and I'm sure would have Snell 00 by now...
My guess would be that they don't do enough volume into Australia for it to be worth their while to get ADR approval?
Ahh ok, is it possible to buy them here though?
Yeah, you can get in Oz... if you look in the back of AutoAction or MotorsportBlues, you'll usually find an ad for the SImpson guy in Sydney, and most Speedway vendors sell 'em. They're real popular with the speedway kiddies, who tend to use a lot of stuff from yankeeland, including helmets and racesuits.

The problem with them is they're not designed for a bike impact or abrasion like a true bike helmet.
I'd stick to a bike helmet, they're cheaper than simpson car helmets and are heaps better aero dynamically for bikes.
Cheddo.
I thought they did make them as bike helmets?
It's not really important as I just want it for fucking around. I have a Suomy Gunwind for when I wanna ride and there's a fair chance I'll fall off :D
I just want the bandit for an airbrushing idea I've got and for being a poser :D :D :D

I used to do helmet painting and airbrushing a few years back full time for most of the v8 supercar guys and some of the aussie world superbike boys - and it isn't cheap to get done.
If you want the best, you have to pay for it...
