I`m a newbie here guys and have been looking for info regarding
replacing the rear drum brakes on my vl v8 to discs and found a post with some one saying that a vn rear setup would fit! what`s involved in that conversion? Any advice /info on what would be the easiset conversion would be appreciated.

Are you sure your VL V8 doesnt already have rear discs? I was pretty sure that only the N/A sixes got drums.

Thats a pretty stupid comment gab obviously he knows it has rear drums otherwise he wouldnt be asking how to convert to disks, and btw only the turbo 6's had rear disks

chryslergalant, Gab's actually correct, 5L VL's are factory fitted with discs all round as std, they ran the same brake package as the turbo. In fact I'm pretty confident pretty much any 5L 'dore VB on came with discs all round.

This doesn't explain why pete's has rear drums. Easiest fix is getting complete axle assy from another 5L VL. Pete, are you sure you aren't mistaking the inernal drum handbrake for a drumbrake? If you can post a pic we could tell you straight away.

any ways.......

it should just bolt straight up .

same as my gemini VL rear disks bolted straight up and replaced the gemini drums

Pete , i own a VL 5 ltr and yes they come with the the same brake/diff as a VL turbo . They are fitted with the borg warner 4 pinion diffs which carry the large 28 spline axles . The only drum VL's where the NA's and they use the smaller version 24 spline diffs and 2 pinion centres.

If you have drums most likely its a NA or older model diff as they will all bolt up with tailshaft mods required for the older ones.

As the above posts states look at a complete swap to the VLt or 5ltr diff and brakes.
