Can it be done?

I have had DBA Gold’s on the front for a couple years and they are now pretty poor. They have some bad looking record groves in them. Originally had Metal King pads, then switched to RB74's (extreme improvement!).

What’s the lifetime expectancy of these things suppose to be?

Life expectancy......till they wear out

Re Machining........this is an email to me from DBA Tech dept

Both crossed drilled &slotted ( DBA longlife Gold ) & Just Slotted ( DBA longlife slotted ) can be machined successfully.
When machining these discs a little more care needs to be taken.
Make sure the mounting surface is clean, and rotor mounted on lathe with minimum runout, as always.
The tool tips need to be sharp and directly opposed to each other, so to have even pressure on both faces while machining.
Touch the tips on the face of the disc, and manually remove any lips.
Then take a very fine cut,at a slow speed rate.
If another cut is necessary, repeat procedure.
It takes a little longer because you cannot take a fast, deep first cut, because the tips will drop into the holes or slots and cause damage when exiting.
Done correctly both DBA Gold, & DBA Slotted can be machined successfully.
Whenever machining any disc, make sure you give it a non directional finish, by rubbing some 240 grit emery over the face after machining, and make sure the face is cleaned off with MEK or Brake clean after machining to remove any carbon, graphite deposits from the disc face.
