I must admit I only started watching the race at around lap 90 but I felt like I spent most of the time watching a safety car go round the track.

Are the V8 race organisers doing a Nascar-esque safety car trick and deploying a safety car in the interests of race excitement?

It does a great job of bunching up the field but whats wrong with a double waved yellow in that corner/sector. Bathurst is a relatively long track, long enough for cars to be a fair while away and it takes quite a while for even a twin turbo V8 Audi to do a lap. Even when the marshalls picked up I think it was Bright's car, did half the lap in their flatbed during race time, in that time at least 3 laps had been wasted!

Thoughts?

what does this have to do with forced induction?
Other than that I have nothing to add

This is where I introduce you to the anomalies of the Motorsport forum.

a safety car 10 laps from the end would have made it more interesting :)

I agree that it artifically bunches up the field and it allows some room for accusations of abuse, but, it does make for great racing.

Basically it fits into the V8 mould perfectly.

Probably a bit overused, but who wants to go back to the days of the race continuing with the flatbed diving around the circuit, & winning margins of 1 or 2 laps.

Trouble is - say you have two cars entered.
Car A. -
- Driver 1. Driver who is leading the drivers championship
- Driver 2. Driver who is somewhere in he top 5 of the drivers championship

Car B.
- Driver 1. Driver who is in about 20th in the drivers championship
- Driver 2. Nigel Nobody - does not contest the championship

Lets say Car A is in 12th position, just finished his last pitstop and almost a lap down with 15 - 20 laps to go. They have no real hope of winning the race from their current position, but say for example - Car B was to accidently slide off in the sand trap, refuse to get out of the car (so they HAVE to use the saftey car) and then Car A gets to tack onto the end of a very close bunch of cars, half of the cars duck into the pits for their final splash and dash and all of a sudden, Car A is now in 6th position, with 15-20 laps remaining and is a real chance of making the top 5, or even the podium...
