I was sad to see Sainz not start the event. Would have been nice to see him in action one last time, and on Aussie soil too! Ditto at Solberg's retirement. Sounded like he was going to give it a real go.

Up the front Gronholm has 21.4 seconds on Loeb going into the weekend.
But more importantly (at least I think) are the Group N standings.

7th O/R A. McRae +6:09.7
8th O/R C. Atkinson +6:20.9
9th O/R C. Crocker +6:37.3
10th O/R D. Herridge +6:37.6

Atkinson lost time early and is on a real charge. If he can keep up the pace he should score points. Ditto Cody and Dean. :worship: Go the Aussies!

Also Solberg did his best Ross Dunkerton impersonation during shake down... Guess he isn't as good as the master yet!

Well who would believe it. First stage of the day and Gronholm has crashed and is out of the rally! After another great stage Atikinson has jumped in front of McRae and as now sitting in 6th O/R!
