A friend of mine from overseas is looking to see if there are any places where he could be offered an apprenticeship (or almost any work at all) relating to the mechanics of bikes.

He's owned several bikes over the last few years and probably has a good knowledge but no accreditations.

A place in brisbane or surrounding areas would probably be preferable, but if anybody knows of anything in Australia at all, post away :)

I'm not sure there is such a thing as accreditation for bike mechanics. I seem to recall someone telling me that, but I can't remember who.......

I know nothing about bikes, nor any bike workshops near here, so forgive the lack of knowledge.

Just chasing up any opportunities for him.

I was going to be a mechanic at one stage. Went through the MTA 'Group Training Scheme'. There is an interview process of sorts and a few tests that you have to go through, but after that you are then trained in all things mechanical and you can go on to be a Bike mechanic if you wish. A couple of the guys in the course did their apprenticeships at Bike workshops. Not sure if it's available to overseas residents, but it might be worth a look.
