View Full Version : 2005 circuit fun in Q?
So what circuit participation have you got planned for 2005? That is if the nasty rumour that most Q PF'ers are closet drifters is not true
A few of us Z car punters hope to do the Morgan Park supersprints plus some of QR's sprints. Will we have some PF company? Don't want to know about you 'sports' racing car lot, go play with the open wheelers :p
MSCA sprint series and vic hillclimb champs...car and time allowing,
You bunch of closet drifters
Will see how the car is coming along there seems to be a few cars getting sorted so I suspect PF will have a strong presence.
Hope to be debuting the new motor in the Fiat at the February sprints. I'll be trying to do as many days at QR as I can along with a few days at MP. Also want to pay a few visits to the MtCotton hill climb track. Will be a busy year!
I will bring the 240z out to QR at least once this year. Let me know when a few of "you zed guys" are gonna be there :p
There's always at least one perverted sole with an old Zed there!

I'd be interested in doing something along those lines.
I've only just relocated to Brisbane, so am yet to catch up with that scene.
Where's Morgan Park and where are the other tracks around that run regular, low spec type events?
My car isn't normally used for this type of thing, but hey, when in Rome...and the rallying scene up here seems a little quiet for my liking.
Cheers,
Matt
QR is here http://www.queenslandraceway.com.au/
Morgan Park is near Warwick, no website.
Rallying sux

Nope...rallying is great fun!!
IS there a website for Morgan Park? I looked at the QR site and the sprint events seem targetted at road cars...is there a competition vehicle class or would I get bunched up with the rest of them?
I assume the supersprints at Morgan Park are the proper ones ?

don't worry...I've checked again and it seems the Celica would be in B2.
Cool...won't make the 22nd, but the one in February looks promising.
Are they usually over subscribed?
Im moving to Melb for about 6 months for work...& the taxi is down there still. So no doubt my 1st sprint will be Sandown, Phillip island, winton or calder...rather than QR or MP.
I still promise to get it up here for a run though...its just a matter of when
my brother (PRB Clubman) is planning on entering the super sprint series at morgan park and racing again in the one day wonders at QR.
Hopefully I will have the 929 in a raceable conidtion sometime this year...

Is he racing in the first meeting at QR this Sunday?
Cal.
Is he racing in the first meeting at QR this Sunday?
Cal.
Yes Ben did race yesterday and even led the feild in one of the races :D
Yellow PRB, right? He did a 60 on the Sprint Track. Fast car. I ran around at the back of the field all day. I was way out of my depth. The PRB and I were the only 2 road registered cars in the class. The 2nd slowest car in the race was doing 62's around the Sprint Circuit. I need slicks and at least 50% more power for next time. So that is what I shall have. :D
Cal.
Yeah that was him :D You were in the green MX5 ??? If I had of know I would have come over and siad hi !!!! I hope to be out at the next meet in March :D

That was me. :)
Cal.
Hey Cal,
I had no idea that was you, I also would have said hello but wasn't sure. Yeah my brother ben raced in the same class as you. Funny classings at times. You in the mx5's were apparently supposed to be racing in the sports car class (the one with the porsches, monaro, rx7's and cobra's, but Mr Sheridan or whatever his name is, the one who just bought the ex brock monaro, didn't want the MX5's in his race. Apparently if you have more money than race cars, you can get what you want.
The guy who owned the monaro also owns a lola, a GT40, the rs200 that was at the last historics and a few other things. He is the CEO of Virgin Airlines Australia or something.
Lucky for ben he had you mx5's in his class or he would have come last with nothing buy formula fords and formula 2 cars in the class to go up against. (Sorry about that, hehehe). Your mx5 is shmick. The polishing job on the cam cover looks great. Is that your first one day wonders racing event? Ben has done it once before. We have about 50 minutes of footage from the event, you little car even shows up in there once or twice. A lot of footage of the Blue MX5 as ben had a really good tussle with him all day. Once we get it all cut up into races or highlights or whatever, will somehow get it out to everyone. I recall your car having a camera in it too.
Apparently the RX7's should have been in the Sedan class but they asked to be put in the Sports cars class. I have been told the RX3 will be in the Sedan class too ........ not sure I want to be in that class as the car should be capable of being at the pointy end of that field and I am not racing for sheep stations like the front runners were :(
Yeah I've met Rob Sherrard. I know Wayne Park and one of the guys that crew for him. Truth be told, it might be my fault that we were put in the class we were. I was talking to Rob at the drivers breifing and had a joke about how slow my car is and that he should just treat me like a parked car, should he be coming up to lap me. Was never going to be a problem in a 5 lap race. Anyhow, none of the MX5 guys were very happy about it. I didn't bother telling them about my conversation with him!
Yes mate, that was my 1st go at the One Day Wonders. Got sick of doing sprints ect. I was also looking for a change from racing karts. I obviously need loads more grunt to race against that stuff. I wasn't going to do another event in the car until I had a fresh engine, but decided to run on Sunday so I didn't miss any of the rounds. I am looking at an engine tonight. I hope to have a fresh engine (compression is non existent), twice the boost (only at 4psi now), an intercooler and semi slicks by the next round. Hoping to go from 104rwhp to about 150.
That car your brother was dicing with is owned by a mate of mine Henri. It is a pretty serious bit of kit. That PRB really moves along hey. Did he build it?
Cheers,
Cal.
PS Yep I had a camera running all day. Doesn't show much action from back there! Good for me looking at my lines ect.
Yeah Cal, we had a chat to Henri Van Roden a couple of times. You know the guy in the silver MX5? It was his first time out racing a real car, he normally does the go kart thing.
I have seen Henri around before, he is a friend of a friend and a competitor of a friend. I know Brian Ferreby with the red mx5 which currently holds lots of records for an mx5 and Henri was telling me his car is almost the same as Brian's now.
Ben (my brother) bought that car finished. He actually started building one a couple of years ago, but this came up for too cheap a price with all the bits it has, you can see it here:
http://www.prbaustralia.com.au/10%20laps.html
That car is the exact car he owns, the differences now are it has a standard 20 valve motor, standard t50 gearbox and an Autronic SMC computer. THe car has 5.5 inch wide minilite/superlite rims with A032r's on them. In that story the car has a formula atlantic motor, close ratio box, motec and afull slicks with 8 inch slicks on the front and 10 inch on the back.
We bought a motorbike engine on the weekend and that will likely be going into his old chassis that he was building and if we know what we are doing will set it up to race in marque sports 2a. Ben is trying to race in marque sports 2b eventually. Apparently you need a cams level 4 licence for that.
THis one day wonders series is great fun and great value though, I am certainly looking forward to getting my 929 out to have a go one day, looks like I will have to be chasing Yogi!!!!
Small world mate. I know Brian.
The bloke who was driving the silver MX5 is the son of Peter Lacey. We raced karts with those guys in the Gold Coast club for years. Was happy to see them there on the weekend. I had no idea they had built that thing.
That PRB of Ben's is obviously pretty sorted. I'm tempted by the clubman thing, but I've been around MX5's too long! I very nearly bought a Westfield a few years ago for $12k. Should have really, cheap enough.
I reckon this series is bloody brilliant. I'm trying to get some more mates out there for the next. A good mate has a Pug 205 GTI with an Mi16 motor in it. I'm trying to encourage him to run in the sedans.
Cheers,
Cal.
Yeah, Brian is the neighbour of a friend of ours and he is always willing to have a chat about racing. When my brother offered him a drive of his clubman a while back, brian handed him his beer and was out of there!!!!!!!!!!!
Forgive my lack of pug knowledge, but I gather the mi16 motor is the 140kw thing out of a fairly recent peugeot???? Or am I way off????
Nah, Mi16 motor is just the 16V version of the 205 motor. Came in the 405 Mi16 from 1989 onward. Has 116kw. The 405 weighs 1150kgs and the 205 GTI about 850kgs. The result will hold a Rex in a straight line. When there are corners about, it will be gone. Cool conversion, but not too common in Australia.
Cal.
Sounds like QR's one day wonders is a good thing :)
Anyone doing the Morgan Park first series this year? In it for the fun and saturday night pissup, effing car won't be ready for the first one, mumble mumble
260DET ...... what is needed to race in that series licence wise ??? Can you just rock up and race a couple of meeting or do you have to make a commitment to do them all ???
Basic CAMS licence for Morgan Park, its a series so you register your interest first up and then they send out entry forms for each event through the year.
For QR see details on their site.
Yogi, you talking about the sprint series or the race meetings put on by MG? You'll need a National licence if you want to race. They are $385/year http://www.cams.com.au/content.asp?PageID=Competitors&ObjectID=1
Cal.
Reading all of this is just making me more depressed about my car not being ready yet...still... :( Especially as at the top of the thread I was hoping to be at the Feb sprints in it...that's tommorow!! The car still doesn't have an airbox, throttle linkages, tune, fluids and half the interior is missing...
I'm definately going to have to give this QR race series a go! Sounds like awesome fun. Were there any cars without cages?
Yep there were quite a few cars without cages. They prefer cars with a cage but will let you run without. In the sedan class you'll have stuff to dice with ie Geminis & HQ's and stuff. In the sports car class you need serious herbs to be competitive.
Cal.
Could cathy run in the sedans?
oooohhhh, that means she has to come back to QLD then...stupid bitch:)
Good, bring that black bitch out for an arse whippin. :)
Cal.
Is there anything fast in the sedan class?
Yep, sports sedans. ;) Fair variety of different cars and paces though. Should have a good run with that thing. Just a bit nice in the panel work as the MX5 is.
Cal.
I think I'll give it a whirl later in the year when both myself & Cathy are back up here.
It will hve more power than any of the sports sedans...but a fair whack more weight too.
Geez Edo, put that bitch on a diet. No point being able to run fast if she's a fat shit. Imagine the leg speed she'd get minus a few kgs. :p

But you need all the cusshy dead cow, Air Con and CD Player for the drive out to QR.
Yeah, Cal. There aint no way Im going racing without full leather, 7 speaker stereo & climate control...Im not a bloody animal you know.
Do you think there will be enough music on 6 cds to last all race?
Being they are 5 lap races, you should be sorted mate. ;)
Cal.

Cal ...... I was talking about the Morgan Park sprint series. So you only need a CAMS L2S to race ???
As for the AAA sprint series I though you just needed a $200 national licence or a CAMS C3 :(
Edo ...... any idea what is needed to get a CAMS C3 ???
Morgan Park Sprint Series = CAMS 2S and AAA sprints you only need there $55 licence. The race licence is $200. Here's the CAMS site:http://www.cams.com.au/default.asp
Cal.
Yes yogi. I have an idea.
Ring CAMS, get a form sent out. Book in to do lecture (flags), book in to do driving test anywhere they specify, get a medical (on form, as are docs who do it), send money, passport pics, completed form & more money to them & in 8 weeks check your letterbox!
