It's been a while since we talked about karting so I thought I'd bring it up again.

Macquered and I finally got our karts down to Picton just before Xmas and had a blast.

So much so that I've decided to try my hand at some competitive karting and will join the North Shore Kart Club that races at Eastern Creek. I'll be running in clubman heavy and will be a fair bit overweight but I'm hoping to drop some kg through the year.

I'm really excited about doing some competitive wheel to wheel racing where everyone is on a pretty even wicket. I think my first race will be in Feb so I'll let you guys know what happens.

I'd like to hear from anyone else on here who is involved in karting and lives in Sydney. Macquered is a lazy bugger so I need to find some more people to practice with.

I've done a bit of karting.

Get a lap timer and try some different lines/braking to see what works best. And don't stuff around forever practising, get out and race, or else you get so used to running around by yourself, you will freak out when you get 30 karts trying to flip you (typical clubman heavy race) :p

Oh have fun, unless you have heaps of money and time, then take it fuckin seriously ;) :D

Got a lap timer and it's been pretty useful.

I get bored with practising pretty quickly - it's the racing that I really love. I did Aaron Macgill's enduro karting series last year down at Kembla Grange and the best bit was the wheel to wheel action! If anything I was probably a little too aggressive with my overtaking - a couple of times I got caught by lapped traffic when they spun in front of me!

I have to admit that I'm a little nervous about running so close with many other karts in a competitive situation, I think I have to start from the back to begin with anyway (I have an license test on Monday and I think they'll give me some p-plates for the first few races).

ps Rowds: you should see Brenno now, with a few more days under his belt he's probably got at least another mm of growth!

Sounds good Jeff, if you and Brenno want to get some pics of you guys in action, let me know when and where you'll be racing :)

Damn Brenno took the pic down off his site, so I went into my temp internet files, found it and uploaded to my own site.... heh

I just found out tonight at my licence test that I have to start from the back of the grid for the first 4 race meetings that I attend (bummer).

I don't think i'll be at the nationals (not this year anyway).

Did any of you go to Lithgow 23rd January?
My mate was racing there and was at the Creek (week before) as well.
He reads this forum, said he meet you one night at the creek testing.
Yellow CRG clubman.

Lithgow was raining so hard, the rotax's were going nice and hard.
We had some minor issues with my mates kart, seemed like water was getting into the engine :(

I used to race karts back in the day

If you join Wollongong Kart Club you can run in Clubman Super HEavy - it is by far the most competitive and hard fought class you have ever seen - mostly 35+ business men with guts haning out trying to releive stress and win... its so good to watch

How Ya Do'in.

I'm currently racing Clubman Heavy with NSKC. I'm here to help.

The packs have died down a little, the most you'll get is 22, with 18 about the average.

The weight limit has been raised to 160kgs, which puts me about 8kgs heavier, the extra weight hurts 2 stroke karts, especially out of corners.

I can't tell you how important it is to use a good lap timer, they are so useful, you pick up heaps of time, when you talking about 22metres a second, half a second too early or pause on a stop watch is costly. What sort of lap timer are you using ?

I'm taking the kart out for a run this Saturday if your keen. If I can pull some respectful times I might enter the King of Creek, which is always good racing.

It's a very addictive sport. And it does cost a bit, not "unaffordable" if you can afford it. I guess its with all racing, your happy until you get your first trophy or good result and then you spend/think about ways of getting that extra tenth a lap, which is hell harder then getting a second a lap to make the top 10........

Sorry for raving on......Have heaps of fun.....
