Country Energy is offering 72 apprentice positions as part of a continued commitment to enhancing growth and development in country and coastal NSW. Country Energy's apprenticeship training program provides 3-4 years of technical training and an opportunity to embark on an exciting and challenging career in the energy industry. The apprenticeships being offered for 2006 include the following trades:
*Powerline Worker (Lineworker)
*Electrical Technician
*Electrical Technician (zone substations)
*Cable Jointer
*Communication

At Country Energy, the safety of our employees and apprentices is paramount. Using a mentoring approach, apprentices are supervised in every aspect of their work to ensure that they are not exposed to any hazardous situations. Safety training is a priority for the organisation, both employees and apprentices are continually updated on safety best practice.
training
Apprentices participate in a structured training program, designed to encompass every aspect of the trade.
Basic subjects covered during the first year:
*Occupational health and safety
*Workshop practices
*Applied electricity
*Electrical wiring
*Circuit protection
*Electrical drawing interpretation
Following successful completion of the first year, apprentices undertake job related subjects such as:
*Power system components
*Power distribution
*Protection and relaying
*Lighting
Further "on the job" training includes:
*Plant safety practices
*Rigging and dogging
*Science and materials
*Pole and line inspection
*Vegetation control
*Underground cable installations
*Metering installations
*High voltage switching
travel
To gain appropriate knowledge and skills, travel may be required for short periods of time to various Country Energy locations. If you are successful in gaining an apprenticeship with Country Energy, you will be required to attend a training camp of 3 - 4 weeks in one of our training centres at Grafton, Goulburn or Parkes. Travel, accommodation and meals will be provided during this time.
length of apprenticeship
The length of each apprenticeship is normally a four year period, but this may vary according to current trade qualifications or the apprentice's experience at the time of commencement.
additional training
During the course of an apprenticeship, apprentices will be trained and qualified in a number of WorkCover and other industry accredited operations such as elevated work platform and traffic controller.
rates of pay
The commencing salary for apprentices who are under 21 is $399.23 per week, and $629.42 per week for those over 21.
the future
Apprentices who successfully complete the apprenticeship program are eligible to apply for any trade specific position across Country Energy locations in New South Wales.
