View Full Version : Steering lock stops

I've got a Camira rally car that I've successfully managed to break both outer CVs in. The problem happens in khanacrosses where at full lock I dump a bunch of torque through the drive shaft and it breaks the inner cage. Yes, I could try to not do that, but in the heat of competition... :D

Harry Hockley (the UK Astra gurus, same running gear as Camira) suggest restricting lock to 28 degrees and have an (exchange) modification for the centre of the steering rack. The rack is one where the tie rods come out of the centre of the rack instead of both ends.

Any ideas how that sort of lock stop works? Or a similar fix? I'm not too keen to send a whole rack to the UK for a UKP14 mod if I can come up with a local solution.

They probably weld the last tooth or two on each end of the rack. Just guessing of course.

Not totally sure about the Camira rack but in some european crs like Citroens where the rods are in the centre the rack housing has a cap at each end. Screwing the cap in or out adjusts the rack travel and therefore the steering lock.
Always seemed like a complicated way to do a simple job to me.
