View Full Version : Increasing caliper clearance

Gday

Contemplating brake upgrades for my car, i'm getting quite worried about clearing the caliper (4 pots) on the inside of the rims, without spending a fortune getting rims made to spec.

I'm wondering what I can do in terms of moving the disc inwards rather than moving the hub face of the wheel inwards (if that makes sense)... basically, increasing the height of the hat on the rotor so that the disc itself sits further in. Logic tells me it can be done, with reasonable success... the limit would be the point where the other side of the caliper starts fouling on something..

most importantly, I'm wondering about the legalities of such a thing (if the rotors were made up for me that is).. I want the car to be by the book.

Any thoughts, suggestions, or death threats will be taken on board.

Cheers

Nick

well all still up in the air at this point, but I'm debating the concept at this point

it'll be for a Fiat 124 coupe (CC), contemplating 4 pot calipers of pretty much any kind, most liekly teh brembos off a delta integrale evo 1 or a fiat 20VT coupe.

Sounds interesting
As long as there is clearance inwards you can go as far as you like
The further in the caliper away from the wheel the better chance of cooling the disc you have
My racecar calipers are 50% outside the wheel on the front.

Its possible to get a flat disc and make a bell to suit to get any offset you want

Hardest part about going too far in is making the caliper bracket strong enough if its not in a straight plane with the stub
