With a few hundred bucks is it possible to make a VT do a 15 second quarter mile? Given it's a 4 speed auto with overdrive I was thinking of putting some 4.11's out of a similar Borg Warner diff. There's also a crow stage 2 cam kit part number CCKVTM62. Does anybody have experience with this cam?

My mate has a TE Gemini with a pre-ecotec motor in it that has the stage 3 kit in it and I'm most impressed with the results. Is the Stage 2 kit comparable? I quite like the lump in his idle :D

How many RPM are the VT rods good for... Another option is to buy a cam/valvetrain gear from Crow and have a custom MEMCAL made

Don't want to cause a ruckus, but the crow 'packages' are shit, the memcals are never right.
The cams are good though.
You won't do much for a few hundred, get a supercharged V6 cold air induction set up (genuine holden, around $70 through your local dealer), VT 5L throttle body (bolts straight on) & remove intake restrictor behind throttle body, add headers and a decent 2.5" exhaust & you'll pick up good power.
Next step would be 3.7 or 3.9 diff gears.
With all of the above it'll run 14's.
Next step is a crow stg 3 cam, valve springs & a custom tune by someone who knows what they're doing with Kalmaker & a modified stall converter (from memory you can get 2600 stall out of the stocker without having to go to an all new converter).
May (only just) run high 13's like this.
Any quicker will require opening up the engine, then it starts to get expensive.

Edit - you won't hurt the stock rods - it'll run out off puff before the revs get high enough to cause a problem.

And the roller followers will be in the sump before you get there anyways :D
