Step 1: Buy stock dunger VL for 3 grand
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v108/stanaz01/SV100188.jpg

Step 2: Stick on toyota supercharger and see how it goes:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v108/stanaz01/DYNORUN2.jpg

(bottom power line is blower switched off, top power line is blower switched on, boost is 3psi!)

Step 3: Manual conversion

Step 4: Buy one of these:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v108/stanaz01/IM000055.jpg

and build a new engine to go under it:

oops i have a GT40:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v108/stanaz01/DSC00179.jpg

..... and an Eaton M90:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v108/stanaz01/eaton7.jpg

shit it's not going to fit high-mounted with the blower - dammit!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v108/stanaz01/DSCF0137.jpg

i know, i'll low-mount it!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v108/stanaz01/SV100066.jpg

sweet, but it's a bit laggy....... i know i'll twincharge it, huzzah!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v108/stanaz01/IMG_1107.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v108/stanaz01/SV100533.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v108/stanaz01/SV100562.jpg

Goes okay, needs more fuel and a stronger gearbox.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v108/stanaz01/SV100571.jpg

I built this over the course of 2 years, because i had no money (student). Certainly learnt a lot about building engines and welding etc, as i fabricated the exhaust manifolds and blower mounts etc, engineered the drive system and made the piping. i built and toleranced the bottom end and assembled the whole engine after the head was reconditioned by a pro. bought a 2nd hand powerFC and wired it up myself. made a surge tank for the boot and installed a complete new fuel system for the car. made the exhaust dump pipe down to a pre-bought 3 inch system.

So end result is a 300rwhp VL on 9psi, stock cams with a bloody awesome power curve. Car has not been inside a single workshop since i started except for the dyno tune. Home-built engine is going strong and i'm pretty happy with it so far.

Cheers,

Stocky

how much of a restriction is the supercharger when the turbo is at full boost? I'm guessing it will limit the amount of airflow in the end.

Nice ass too.

haha, phear my thread view count sneakiness!

the VL cost 3 grand when i bought it, which was 4 years ago. it was a pretty good buy back then as i recall.

bought the M90 from the USA via ebay, it was delivered for about $320 which is substantially cheaper than you can get them here. had to have that drive snout shortened though, as you can see.

nope.

stocky didn't I hear you say the s/c gets bypassed?

stockymcstock
26-11-06, 09:41 PM
yep. that's what the external gate on the piping there does. it unloads the blower at idle and partial throttle conditions and allows boost to be fed to the engine with direct relation to throttle input. so the further you put your foot down, the more boost you get :)

I love the enginuity (spelling) of everything you've done. You've really put some thought into the setup :thumbs up:

I'm on dialup so looking forward to seeing a55

I think an MS Paint diagram of the air path is needed.

Certainly sounded pretty damn good at the party mate.

On 10% throttle I reckon. Fast. Usable. Wank free. All PF cars should be as good as this..

(it's funny that Pete's Supra and Neils car here are kinda opposite ends of the spectrum, but they both do it for me. Viva La Difference!)

stockymcstock
27-11-06, 07:06 PM
orright just because you carnts are too simple to work this out:

Edit: I really have nothing else to add to this thread, apart from being impressed by the bubbling paint on the bonnet, Neill's ghetto workmanship (which transferred across to my last car) and how fucking fast it was with just the GT40. Haven't had a ride with the blower on...yet.

awesome ms paint

awesome arse

you've done very well (and the cars not bad either for a commo)

well done on building it up as a student , legendary stuff

stockymcstock
28-11-06, 07:53 PM
sweet gents - it's just about ready for a stronger gearbox and some more boost, then i'll show you how to build a 300rwkw car on very low boost with no lag :)

certainly gets strange looks from people, the noise from the front end is a bit..... suspicious.

Does the car dose?

do calaisturbo.net muzzas approve?

*btw tough car mang...please tell me it still has those dicky hubcaps*

how good is a RB25/30,

too damm good!!

awesome setup mate, well done

stockymcstock
30-11-06, 06:55 PM
yep still has hubcaps, doesn't "dose" but makes other whacky noises to make up for it. the din from the front end at full bore is truly astonishing, i like to say it's "deafeningly awesome"

no more pics of GF, that one will have to sustain you all through your gruelling masturbation sessions.

More pics of the blower/wastegate setup please :D

Also, is that a JD Custom plenum? IF so, didnt the have some issues with melting pistons?

yeah it's a JD one, there was some conjecture about his old design being dodgy and causing rear cylinders to run heaps lean, but he rectified this with a revision of the design. i have one of his new design ones. pretty happy with it so far, except for issues with clearance of the IAC valve. i had to relocated it to the side of the plenum because it was hitting things at the rear.

stockymcstock
19-07-08, 12:54 PM
still got it, had the turbo-blower connecting pipe re-done by a professional so it actually fits properly not, also have put some of that flexible ACL shielding stuff over the manifold so the paint on the bonnet doesn't catch fire as much. still going strong...... i have the R33 gearbox in my garage, just haven't had time or *gasp* motivation to put it in and re-tune the thing for more power yet. I really should get off my ass and finish this car hey.....

21-07-08, 04:37 PM
looking at the pics.... you modified the M90 snout yourself??

i think i will need to do the same due to clearance issues of starter motor.

more details/pics please :)

stockymcstock
21-07-08, 05:21 PM
the arse has actually improved over time, much like a fine claret actually. it truly is magnificent to behold.

brett i had the snout shortened by a local machinist here, i don't have access to a lathe, nor the skills to use it. it wasn't that hard, and we were able to retain both of the races inside (only just!). you can get zero length drive snouts for them but CAPA wants like 600 bucks. maybe search around american sites for cheaper ones, these blowers are a dime a dozen over there. the machining cost me 200 bucks all up, so if you could get a nicer off-the-shelf job for 300-400 you'd be laughing.

21-07-08, 06:06 PM
Fark that is seriously impressive on all accounts (project, power, ghetto home built skillz and woman bot bot).

Give yourself a pat on the back my friend. I would actually like to hear this thing at some stage.

stockymcstock
21-07-08, 06:11 PM
you don't want to hear it, trust me. if you boost it in a tunnel it makes your ears bleed if the window is down. see the gilmer drive is loud, the turbo is louder, the blower is even louder than that and then there's a 60mm wastegate with an open path to the ground. because the turbo's only producing like 2psi, it vents massive amounts of gas on full noise......... yeah it's pretty loud

stockymcstock
21-07-08, 06:15 PM
but having said that, it's fucking hilarious to drive. some of the looks you get are awesome. even had a guy in an SR-powered datto come up to me at a set of lights and his mate leaned out the window

'dude wtf is there something wrong with your car?'

'nah, she's running sweet, why?'

'sounds like the gearbox or something is fucked, its making shitloads of whining noises'

'oh yeah don't worry that's the supercharger'

'..........'

sketchypiMp
21-07-08, 06:15 PM
So its anti social, fast and looks like a shit tin? Thats at least fifteen awesomes.
