98 WRX motor , Motec m4, WRX Box/Diff/Shafts -Usual turbo car mods - filter, 3 inch turbo back exhaust and aftermarket up pipe. VF30 turbo = driveline
legacy dash, 2000 sti seats, alpine cd player with mb qaurt splits front and rear, blitz ebc, momo steering wheel and gear knob = interior
jic coilovers, cusco struts front and rear, 2000 wrx 4 pot brakes and endless pads on front
rays engineering gram lights rims = the rest.

Did a 13.2 the second day I had it - I did it before a heap of mods, with no working dash and no idea how to drive it. on .7 bar it makes 224 @ all 4 wheels... feels alot quicker on 1 bar though :) I really want to get some fuel into it and go to 1.3 bar.. but not sure how stock 98 EJ20 will enjoy it.
Its real strenght is twisty roads.. through a set of corners and it comes alive :D
Good fun car. Just had some back luck with it... in a week I broke a diff, driveshafts, and box... bugger.

The rims look 100 times better in real life too, especially when rolling :)
I went past a glassed fronted building on Sunday, had a good perve, made me smile when I realised it was my car :D
If I keep it, it will get sprayed soon, and some more mods.
BTW, loving this subsection of the forums. Means some of us still have performance cars haha

Scooter decides to change lanes without looking. Options - kerb or kill scooter owner. Kerb owned me hard. Send them off for a damage report tomorrow... they look like they might be fixable.... either way im pissed :(
Its been 11 months since I posted about it, but I thought I'd give a few updates...
Two more broken boxes.
The set of rims i got to replace the Rays where fuxored, kept snapping wheel studs, so off they went and it now runs 99 WRX rims.
Had cooling issues, theres a thread in the general tech section. We all assumed it needing bleeding.
Ended up being that I was sold a totally blocked radiator, even though it was "flushed and tested" - Car got way too hot, did a head gasket, and ate into the cylinder head after I kept driving it in anger.
Now runs a 97 TT motor, better heads and cams, definitely goes harder top end. Friends 12.5 second WRX loses to me, so I assume its got a similar time in it. Play basketball Wed nights, cant get down to race and find out.
Took it to Wanneroo for the first time last night on shitter street rubber and 25 dollar brake pads (last minute choice to race, so took it as was). 1.02.01 short track time, quickest on non r-comp tyres, and out of 35 cars was about 13th quickest. Had great pleasure catching and passing a VE Clubsport :D Despite being loud stiff and uncomfy, it all made sense out on track.
Looking forward to going back out on R-comps and some better brakes, and try to crack 1 minute. Especially as one of my friends had said the car would never crack 1 minute as it was... with real brakes it would have gone half a second quicker already.
Oh, and I chopped Fish's times :D

One of the most stunning places Ive been too, about 30 min out of albany, 10km gravel track to get to it, but so worth it. Stunning views.

Well I watched the motor come out of the cut, 97 legacy whatever model they are from japan.
56 000km on the dash, motor doesnt have a spot of oil on it.
My inlet manifold was a direct bolt on according to the guy who swapped motors over. Ive since sold the turbos etc off it, definitely two of them!
Datzed, 2m behind the car is Obrien Rd in the first pic, that was just a driveway I parked on so I could walk over and pay my respects. Yer its 4WD. Think of it as an early model WRX really.
I'm not trying to pick holes in your story TJ, I think your car is neat. I am just trying to help you get the full picture of what your car is made up of from a Subaru Nerd/trainspotter/budding expert point of view.
Was the half cut a GTB Legacy? Engine code EJ20R. VF18 and 19 Turbos. This is a great replacement engine as it is 9/10ths of an STi engine of the same age.

Its going to cop some DS2500's, next track night is the 20th of Decemeber, I want to be at least one second quicker with the only change being the brake pads. Will use the same tyres and boost level, mainly so I improve myself and dont find the time by using R-Comps and power.
But I want more glow too :P

With pads in it and some improvements from myself I expect it to do a 1.13 or so.
if you get some R-comps. I'll bring my tyre gear adn we can play with pressures.
No R-comps till at least the event after, want to improve me first. Brakes are a must though. Pad fade after 1 lap FTL!
not wanting to sound like a smart arse tj but there will be many seconds left in the driving. doing pads and fluid sounds like a good idea tho, stoppings important!

Kerry wade has 400 plus RWhp and awesome skills and uses toyo R888's.
so that is a pipe dream on the long circut. Short circut a minute would be achievable.

Switching to the Federal 595 RS's dropped it to a 58.9 but the track was wet / Damp....I was amazed at the improvement in grip they gave :)

An instructor drove my car once when I fitted the Federals as the event is Sponsored by Federal tyres and he wanted to check them out, but it made me soo bloody car sick that was the end of the night for me :sad:

Some new stoppers to match the 4 pots.. massive improvement, but I need to pull them back off, the left side is grinding.

ahh no money to play with.

Leaving motorvation after a day in the sun and smoke taking pics, turn out onto the main road, go past an undercover cop car, who does a wild u turn, chases me down pulls me over. Fat cop gets out, walks over "well this is getting defected"
Ended up getting done for -
-tear in seat (2cm long, which apparently meant if I had an accident that snapped my seat the metal would poke through and kill me... never mind an accident big enough to snap my seat would leave me fucked anyhow)
- clutch pedal worn... which it wasnt really
- wire "dangerously hanging under the dash" - one of my defi wires was hanging about 2cm below the dashline... oh noes!
Gave me a reason to fix the leaking cv boot, mount my pod properly, give the car a good clean. Put another seat in, fixed reverse lights, and took it over as is.
Was given the list of things to fix - remove tints (they is 10% niggas), standard suspension (they didnt enjoy how stiff my JIC coilovers are) and quieten exhaust (which is fair as its fucking loud)
All good, get a month to do that.
1 week in took a few mates for a spin... only to spin a big end bearing. Fuck.
Im struggling for cash atm, so no chance to replace the motor, so had to hand the plates in. Needs full re-rego now, and im sure ill get bum fucked like last time needing a full tech inspection. Fuck.
So its off the road for a while, which I figure means I need to save some cash and do the following -
Respray
Get the Rays back on the car (sitting in my room awaiting rubber)
EJ20R conversion - forged pistons from factory, 4.44 ratio box. Will retain my single turbo setup, fuck the one small one big turbo setup on legacys. Will keep the motec too.
Full retune
Most likely throw a new carpet in the car - this one is tatty and fucked to bits. Will dye it black before it goes back in too to match the car. Black seats, dash, paint, rims, carpet sounds about right.
ETA 3-4 months.
Almost stripped it for parts, but I just cant do it.

great looking car, I've always like the old liberty's. good luck with it, but beware the fucking money pit things...
i got out of my wrx WAAAAY to late, $80K in bits/repairs/rebuilds over 4 years (inc new car price) and sold car + bits for ~$25K at the end.
lots of fun, and the bastard went like a scalded cat, 1:05 around wakefield on slicks etc etc, but never again.... these days i'd rather spend it all up front on a weekend car + daily and at least have some chance to recoup a chunk of it.
looking forward to hearing about it when it resurfaces.

Sold my FJ20ET and SR20DET Bluebirds both as non runners (about $3000ea) after being in a similar scenario to you, fix one thing, something else breaks....fuck I put 2 x Motors in the FJ Bluey and 2 x SR20's and 1 x full engine rebuild in the SR Bluey plus numerous other shit......gets very disheartening and expensive.
Can't believe my current R32 GTR is proving so reliable :huh:
