Ok, well this is my money pit.
Specs:
393 Cleveland
Block grouted to top of bores
Scat stroker crank
Eagle H-Beam rods
Ross Hypereutetic pistons
Large roller cam (3000-7000rpm)
AFD alloy 2V heads that have been opened up more (approx 570hp)
Yella Terra race roller rockers
TFC 2V High rise single plane (Photos show the old Weiland Excellerator 2)
Bosh dizzy
Nice new shiny PWR alloy radiator
4500rpm Stall convertor
New rebuilt C6 auto, full manual valve body, shift kit upgraded bands and clutches, etc..
9" billet full spool, 35 spline moser billet axels, billet pinion support, strengthening the housing and put 290mm disc brakes on the rear.
Suspension it runs on 600lb springs on the front with Bilstien inserts, 315mm front brakes, the rear is new king spings around 350lb mark. This makes for a pretty rough ride but out on the track it handles and stops very well for a big fat 'Coon.
This new combo should be good for around 400hp - 450hp at the wheels and push the old girl down the quarter in 11.0-11.5 (I hope!)
I only just got it back on the road last week so it won't be until next year before I can run it down the quater, will keep you guys posted.

Unfortunaly not Q, I couldn't afford the $1000 in fuel to drive up there.

lol @ $1k  :D
With this new motor I have managed to use 40L of fuel in less than 160kms.
Sure it costs alot, but man when you push that accelerator its like deflowering an 18yo Jenifer Hawkins :) :)

You should be locked up for even thinking of leaving it outside. I think the proper thing to do would be lend it to me until you have somewhere to park. You'd still be able to see the car - I'd be at Champions Way, Willowbank atleast once a week.

Na sorry Fatboy, that was actually one of my mates (Good to see you understood him!)

I was out at there cause a friend who crew's for Scott Bucton invited me out.
Yeah me and a mate where going to come out and terrorise Buco (ie steal and thrash his Commodore when he wasn't watching... :D) but he rang and said they were having problems with the car and had pulled the pin...
Shame really, i would have seen you in action had he ended up going to the track... ;)
BTW - Any news on the damage ?? Not too bad i hope ??
Pulling the motor out tomorrow, then I will get my engine builder to have a look on Monday and see whats fucked..
This is definately my favourite car on PF!
Ok bit of an update.
Turns out the motor spun 2 bearings due to oil starvation after thrashing it at Oran Park. Pulled the motor down and after doing some checking we found that it had an aftermarket dipstick in it, so with the different sump etc, the full mark on the dipstick was actually about 15mm too low which caused all the problems.
Have since rebuilt the motor, and put on a TFC single plain manifold and new Holley HP 750 carby on.
This new combo went on Trick & Mansweto's dyno and pulled 502.2hp.
Took it out to Powercruise last month and had a ball, got the latest Street Machine and found a 2 page photo of my car!!!! :) :) :)
I'm so farking stoked at having a car in a mag!!

Ok time for another long overdue update.
I finally got around to putting in a stereo so I can listen to some tunes whiel cruising.
Details:
Alpine 7894RB H/U
Kicker Resolution 6" Splits
Soundstream Trantula 6x9's
2 x Digital Design 2012 12" Subs
Alpine V12 MRV-T747 for Front
Alpine V12 something for rear
Kicker 600.4 for subs
0 Gauge power
Audison RCA's
Its all setup for SQ, so no droning bass line that u here coming from 5kms away. It is so loud and clear if you turn it up you cannot hear ANYTHING apart from the music, even when doing 6800rpm!

Look like dunlop formula Rs at a guess.
Dunlop D01J semi's.
They are the same as what the Commodore Cup runs.
And it would appear I have spun another bearing, motor is out and going down this week to get rebuilt.
This time it will cop a head job, port match manifold to heads and a carby space for a few extra HP.
Oh and a new fucking sump thats for sure!

call TK stat!
Thanks Grumpy, I have had a look at their site and they dont do any for Clevo's.
I am going to go a High Energy Club Race or Pro Circuit, just sourcing prices for them now.
I have since found out the high volume oil pumps are also no good for track work, best to run a normal in there.
Yeah, stock volume pump, ported & blueprinted & .060" shim for the relief valve.
Pickup height 8mm from bottom of sump.
Go the pro-circuit pan.
Have you got a restrictor kit in there?
If you're gonna track it regularly it'd be worth forking out the $$ to have the lifter bores sleeved to restrict oil up top, you can also just restrict the whole lot & fit an oil rail in the valley to feed the mains seperately - but sleeving the lifter bores is the best way.
Also, add some external drainbacks from the ends of the heads direct to the sump to get the oil back faster - they need to be at least 1/2" id, preferably 9/16".
Don't send it here unless you don't want it back for 3-4 months.

Ok, motor is back together and I will be dropping it back in this weekend.

New Cam
Port matched manifold
cleaned up the inlet ports a touch
New lifters
Polish rocker covers
Put it all back together

Should have it on the dyno on monday.
What killed it? Surge?
More cam?
I think consensus was too much red bull and not enough oil
well thats obviously wrong, its not possible to have too much redbull

But yes he is correct... :(

Nice read Bermo,
What front rotors are those? as they look to be a similar style to the original ableit larger dia and also looks like you have XF calipers?
Sport on xwwtfbbq. XF calipers, I am not sure what the rotors are off as my mate ordered them for me so I dont know.
Finally got the new motor back in and running on the weekend. Needs carby to be jetted and do the timing, probably do that in 2 weeks timeon my mates dyno.

Great news that the donk is back in and should be fired up soon. That carby is pretty high out now, so I guess no shaker anymore?
I have the XF slotted rotors 287mm with the XF calipers but thinking of going up to the 330mm and PBR 2 pots for a shot at some roundy round stuff in the future.
i will ask my mate later this week for you and let u know the details of my setup.
Mine stops awesome on the track, just make sure you get some decent pads.
Mine are the supercar type things that are fuggin dusty and squel like a bitch when cold.

When it going back to the drags?
Still got a few things to do, like put your slicks on my rims.
it needs a bit of work before its ready, fix the 'no full throttle' issue (After putting the carby spacer on the linkage doesnt get enough leverage to open the carby to full throttle) and its developed a miss since the weekend.
Once thats done I will be down there for sure.
I havent been to the drags since eastern creek days, and I only got 2 passes then.

What's teh plan for more powers? more cubes?
I bit the bullet last week and bought a dry sump pump, going that route.

Also bigger cam as this one is only a baby...
I want less traction at higher speeds.

You're not supposed to. Makes it a bit unstable at high speed. I've never used cross plys on the front but then again I've never gone over 112mph. Also you'll get kicked off if you go faster than 12.5 with cross ply/ radial mix but I did a bunch of 12.1s and never got kicked.'

Sweet. How long now till its all back together?
Wont be back together for about a month or so.
Waiting on dry sump and now I need to find some $$.
Just spoke to my engine builder and he is saying that I will need to change pistons to forged, rods to H-Beam, and cam.
He said the rods are good for 500hp which is what it has already.
The hypertechnic pistons will melt if i put NOS in there.
I have a question about cams, can I just run the big soild and give it a small shot of gas?
Do i 'need' a nitrous cam?
I would probably never use the gas unless it was at the drags which would only be a couple of times a year
Fucking $$$

1/ Hypereutectic - (hahy-per-yoo-tek-tik)
2/ They're usually good for 100-150hp if you're smart about it but yes, it's better to stick forgies in while it's in bits.
3/ No, you don't 'need' a nitrous specific camshaft. Like any other engine modification, nitrous will work better with a camshaft designed for the purpose (specifically with regards to overlap) but it will still make horsepower with your normal cam.
4/ Your converter will let you know whether it's right for the gas the first time you nail it. If it flairs to lots-thousand rpm then it's too loose.
Ok so ill tell them to not to worry about the nitous cam because its mainly for wank value and I will be running it NA 99.99% of the time.
The convertor is getting checked as its supposed to be a 4500. Again I dont give a fark for leaving the line on NOS, I like it the way it drives now, the NOS would only be for 2nd and 3rd as it has no traction in 1st or 2nd as is.

Cool car!
A question about the above and running temps, does it get hot at all with a full grout?
Also regarding the NOS, Just dont hit the gas too low in the rpm range or with typical close LSA cams it makes for engine busting fun, especially with hits of 100+.
Also, If your using a rev limiter, put in an rpm activated switch (msd do them) on the nitrous solenoids and set it a few hundred BELOW the usual rpm limit to turn the gas off early, revs climb real fucken quick on teh gas and you dont want to be putting 950psi of nitrous in a cylinder that dont fire EVERY time.
Typical rev limiters dropping random sparks+gutful of nitrous=nitrous explosions!
If you want to be clever and use two switches, you can set a low rpm/high rpm operating range that is foolproof in every gear, consistant, and tuneable so you figure out exactly the best time to turn it on/off and just use the typical throttle switch to arm the system.
The two switch idea also stops you blowing the bonnet off the car when you flood it one day and crack WFO to crank it over and the gas is activated inadvertently.
Anyway, i love the car, even for a ford:p
It used to run hot with 3 core radiator and single thermo.
Now it runs twin EL thermos and a PWR alloy radiator and doesnt get hot even on the hottest of days. The only time the temp has climbed has been at powercruise when cruising in low gears and standing on it.
7000rpm and about 40kph worth of air isnt enough to cool it... :D
Re: The NAWZZ
I dont run an MSD or any for of rev limit, it just has good old bosh coil and dizzy.
As I am a NOS n00b I will only hit it with the smallest of shots (50hp) as that will probably put me into the 10's and get me booted anyway.
When I get home tonight Ill get pics of all the bits and post them up so people can tell me exactly what to put where.
Im guessing I will only be using NOS on 2nd and 3rd at the drags because even aspirated it has no traction in 1st anyway...
Any one know the exact legalities of have a NOS system on the car, can I drive around with it not hooked up or do I have to remove the bottle from the car?
blackbart
12-08-09, 01:42 PM
Line must be disconnected when on the street. I wouldnt have the bottle in the car just personally.
greenhj
12-08-09, 02:03 PM
agree with BB, take the bottle out for the street, and cap the line so shit cant get in it.
Id also be real tempted to disconnect and cap the engine bay line too, just so john q law doesnt just assume its connected to a bottle hidden somewhere else.
(a bunch of sneaky petes under the front seat works well, so fast and foorios leads me to believe)
Id still be far happier turning off the gas independently of YOUR thumb, if the engine wants to nose over at 7k, itll happily keep turning well past that on the gas until something lets go, at least slowing the acceleration rate to aspirated levels at real high rpm gives you a poofteenth more time to change gear lol.
Also, expect to button off the pass well before usual depending on the gearing, you simply run out revs a lot earlier if its already geared to run hard to 1320'
"Typical" street gearing of 3.5/3.89 is more like a 4.3 with a good sniff, so running gears into the 4's to begin with and adding 10mph to that at the top end will mean your off the gas way early.
Also, "most" of the shelf gas kits are set up fat as fuck, and if you want to play a bit youll find free hp just in the nitrous tune, but like all FI especially at "decent" levels, its pretty fucken unforgiving when you get it wrong, learn to read plugs to see signs of distress :yup:
Id also be looking to take some timing out when on the gas, dont know specifics for fords but 2 degrees every 50hp sounds good and safe, id rather take out 4 and put 2 back later, its always easier to add timing when you know its safe, rather than take some out when its not (usually youll also be cleaning bits of piston ring and land out of the sump anyway if you get it way wrong on a big hit:D)
Do a few aspirated passes first, then wind it up with a 50 shot, at least then youll have accurate comparable data for the night, and be able to make decisions based on wether its "worth" setting it up for gas at the strip, or leaving it as is and having some fun.
What fuel pump do you use? Will it support another 100hp? Even if your only intending 50hp its still a good safety margin to have.
After all that dribble, Did you end up finding out what was killing your engine previously? Clevelands have an AWFUL oiling system ex factory, it just goes to all the wrong places first lol.

Also ANDRA has alot of rules regarding nitrous use. Stickers, blue dash lights, micro switch on full throttle, two switches, encased feed line, etc.
You shouldnt do it but I used to go through scruitineering without the bottle and say I was running NA then chuck the bottle in after. Scruitineers nearly pulled the VN apart once looking for the bottle lol.
Edit: Id start with 100hp and test mixtures/timing on a dyno before racing or giving it a large hit somewhere.
Yeah I have fixed the oiling issues by dry sumping the cunt...!
I have 3.55's in it at the moment so its not really setup for the strip, fuck knows if it will run out of legs or not.
Im thinking of running another pump and fuel line when I hook the gas up, I have another holley blue in the shed I can use.
I will run it up on a dyno first and get it set up to a safe level, take it to the stip and see what it runs asp a couple of time then give it a baby hit.
If it does a 10.99 ill be happy, as for the rules BB I give no fuck for Andra or Drag racing, if they boot me I dont care. Sounds like Ill be hiding the bottle when I go thru sruit.. :D
greenhj
12-08-09, 03:43 PM
3.55 rear gear will be sweeet on the giggle!
You can look forward to your first easy 10, and last run up the dragstrip lol.
people here like to complain about heathcote, but 80% of the cars that go there wouldnt be allowed at WSID or any andra track in their current setups, i feel sorry for you blokes sometimes with all the rules and shit.
(until i realise how much real racing goes on there that i dont get to see :()
Have you ever weighed the falc?
blackbart
12-08-09, 03:47 PM
HQ has 3.5 gears and pulled 124mph with 28in tyres. Only has just over 500 Moroso hp too.
Never weighed it but on the rego papers with the 351 it says 1370, so Im guessing its around the 1500 mark with 50kgs of stereo and me in it.
Ill be running your 26in tyres so be being the drag n00b, what MPH would be needed realistically to do a 10? 120?
blackbart
12-08-09, 04:13 PM
How much power @ engine you reckon?
Well the old motor was dyno'd by Trick & Mansweto as 502.2hp.
Now with a bigger cam, some light head work and dry sump id hope for 530ish.
Then plus 50 shot of NOS??
blackbart
12-08-09, 04:30 PM
1500kg = 3300lbs with 600 moroso hp = 10.0 @ 133mph.
Mine weighs 1580kg with me in it and with 124mph a moroso run = 10.7 so not too far off.
Theres a few online calculators like this one:
http://www.torquecars.com/tools/quarter-mile-time.php
Says 11.46. Fark knows. Gas the c^nt and see what happens.:p
With 530hp + nitrous the only thing stopping a 10 will be traction or driver.:D
greenhj
12-08-09, 04:34 PM
That calculator rocks BB,
Says i need 637hp to run 11.38 lol.
You must have 1000hp :D
blackbart
12-08-09, 04:36 PM
Yeah thats just the first one that came up on search. Theres heaps of them out there. That one seems pretty bad.
greenhj
12-08-09, 04:39 PM
120.1 mph if everything is top notch will get you a 10.99 Bermo.
Assuming 1550kg with driver, 460 moroso will do it.
youll have at least 100hp more up your sleeve on the gas so you should shit it in.
(Forced cars tend to skew the figures a fair bit, but its a good start. Remember the et at the dragstrip doesnt care for your peak horsepower, only the AVERAGE power applied over teh 1320' which is why some normal weight and poorly setup (for the strip) cars run 125mph to crack 11's and others do it with far less even though car 1 moroso's hp is much higher.)
Trigger the NOS with a microswitch on the carby so it only comes on with WOT. An RPM switch is also a good investment, so the NOS doesn't come on too low or high in the RPM range
xwavgas
14-08-09, 12:00 AM
HAHAHAHhaha Good shit Bermister11!!
That kit will have a WOT microswitch and if you head to Dick Smith for a blue LED then you should be fine for the drags. I put the bottle in the cradle but left it disconnected when going to the drags.
This has all the makings of PF alltimemega skids.

Gah. beaten. and wrong! :P
Custom one made up by local fab guy, my engine builder got it made for me.
No idea on $$ yet as havent got the bill yet... :(

Has anyone got a week of time for sale? I need more ASAP

No time to dyno this motor before Oran Park, just going to chuck it in and see how it goes.

Fark that's pretty pricey but I guess they are top end hoses for a reason, I had push on barbed fittings and less fancy blue hose from Aeroquip that might work out cheaper,
you could just use some standard hose to work out lenghts and take it to Pirtek and get them to put fittings on there.

I reckon oil lines are pretty important things to get right.
I had a 90degree -16 speedflow (barbed) and ordered a 90degree -16 summit (barbed) fitting along with some 90degree -6 fittings. The push on 400 series hose was a nice tight fit on the speedflow but could be easily removed by hand on the summit.
In addition the quality of the anodising was/is shithouse compared with the speedflow.
I'd rather not be a tight arse and spend the additional money up front.
Thats what I figured, Ive been through too many "trying to do it a little cheaper" only to have to replace shit with the good gear later on down the track.
And given my history with oil....

fair enough, the do a pretty wide range of brands on summit and even buying speedflow on summit would be shite loads cheaper than locally. oz speed shops are damn slow on reflecting the exchange rate.

speedflow is the best stuff I've seen...
I've got a bit of pro-flow, earls and lots of speedflow... in most cases(not all) speedflow make the best fittings from what I've seen...

Clevo has timing chain housing cast into block, Wheezer has alloy bolt on cover.
its just a street cruiser that sees the track occasionally and I CBF changing to a manual, it does top gear skids now thats all I care about.
Might take it down the drags after this weekend to see what it does down the quater.
So what exactly happened with the dry sump and the old buzz?
He said thats the price cause he had to use all these xtra fittings. Once he started doing it some of the angles he needed and extra bends he had to use and reckons he wouldnt have known until he actually put the hose in the car.
He was ok about it, and he came this morning and fixed a kink in the hose, changed and fitting and doubled checked it for free.

Dominator in Cressida is sucking all the power and the TCE in the ute is taking a bit.

Yea that sump looks great and I am thinking that it would make clearance around my steering rack easier.
Where did that sump come from again?
Custom one made up by local fab guy, my engine builder got it made for me.
No idea on $$ yet as havent got the bill yet... :(
If you want more details I can find out for you.
Right I need a dry sump and I need to find out how you obtained yours, Can you get your engine guy to put me intouch with the fab guy?
Looked at the Internets but all the US sites seem to be for Weezors, very few for Clevos.
Ok I got mine made through my engine builder Geoff at Nepean Engines.

Tell him your after a dry sump pan for a clevo the same as JB. But I will check with my mate because we had to modify one of the outlets because of the way the pump was mounted you couldnt get a fitting on pump and sump.
I have some better photos I will post up of the setup.
My number 1 tip is to buy a NEW pump. I have just found out my second hand one is fucked. Scavenge side is not sucking enough so the motor is getting pumped full of oil and not returning quick enough.
I run a Peterson dry sump tank:
08-0006 2 Gallon Dual scavenge inlet, 19.5" high x 6" dia. -12 An Female Fittings.
Use mount bracket 08-0100
You dont need the dual inlet as I found out (Saves on lines and fittings) just a single is fine.
Then you just get a scavange manifold which is just a 3 into 1 deal to run from your pump to the tank.
Ill dig out some more photos
Hope these work:

Wicked thanks for that, If you have trouble getting any of the special lip seals for your pump (if you strip it), let me know as the blokes that I used to work for made the OEM seals for Sprintex and yours would be similar.

Spewing. Much fire damage to the car?
Oh, and sounds tough as.
Ouch! Man that box was slipping hard, lots or engine revs but minimal rear tire speed. Hope there not too much damage. Engine does sound sweet.
