View Full Version : Evo 8 MR...
Had it imported for me, took a long time to come unfortunately, it was a 5 month process but well worth it in the end :) I've had it on the road for four months now.. love it :D I drive it everyday haha
Anyway, mods:
Ralliart panel filter
HKS cat back exhaust
Boost controller
190kw@all four, 12.6 @ 106mph (best of 108mph).
Goes pretty well for basic mods, to be honest i'm not chasing too much more power, atm it's perfect for me... handles like on rails, stops, plenty of power and most importantly is very reliable too, not one issue at all!
I've got a few other rice things on there:
Ralliart gauges
Ralliart bonnet vent
etc etc
PICS!

Very nice mate. I didn't realise you could pull such good times with so little power.
Really love the EVO 8 MR's. Would go great next to the Foz in my driveway. ;)

Looks good, I bet the drive is never less than excitment :)
I like the CT look, in a way regret back in 2001 not buying the E7 when it was first released. Couldn't justify paying that much then but you quickly understand it's a performance bargain. But meh an Evo is an Evo.

What you waiting for then ;)

Tommo never ventures more than a 400 metre radius from the "hills" district. :)
Love the car mate, I still havn't seen it in the flesh.
pisana, if that's in melb, then no!

Nice...is the MR different to what the Aust version is?
Oh and, skidpan with the window down? Very brave.
M
Yeah, well water makes it more of an experience :p
Anyway, there's actually a fair few upgrades when comparing them... primarily because a) the Aussie Evos miss out on a lot of stuff for some silly reason and b) it's essentially like a "VIII series 2, or 8.5". There's more changes between a VIII and VIII MR than there is between a MR and an IX. Upgrades include:
Bigger Turbo
Bigger Cams
Bigger Oil Cooler
Alim roof (new on the MR)
Tigther recaros
Upgraded AYC
HIDs
Jap models have a Single Cat, all Aussie evos have 2 fitted
Stronger standard clutch
Bilstein shocks standard
blah blah etc, I haven't driven both back to back to know the overall differences, but from outright performace I know the MR performs a fair bit better (faster than a Aussie IX, stock vs stock). I'd love to drive back to back and see how MUCH of a performance difference there really is once you take away all big words the marketing department have used...
I've done some braking mods:
Ferodo DS2500 Pads Front + Rear
BFG Braided Lines Front + Rear
Disc backing plates removed.
So that's the brakes pretty much sorted. Next area of attention is suspension...
I did the brakes first as I went to Wakefield last week, here's a video:

Ended up with a 1:13, which i'm happy with for my first time. I can see a lot of areas for improvement too, so i'm looking forward to going again :)
I've also put together a video from my trip to WSID:

I also had the ECU flashed with more aggressive intercooler water spray maps (designed for wakefield) and also the speed limiter removed.
