My neighbour Max is gonna have a shot at building a 10 second car for under 5k. He bought my 1977 Suzuki Carry truck off me for $150. This thing should weigh about 1300lbs wet. Managed to get a 4age from my wrecker mate for $150. I sold him my old 6 cyl glide for $80.

Planning gze pistons, 430cc injectors, GT28 turbo, 3 litre plenum, steam pipe log manifold, microtech ecu, ebay interwarmer

Hoping to make about 200kwatw.

I have been commisioned to mount the motor and box (money to go to lux project). He's gonna take it from there.

Can someone rotate and post my photos please.

Take it to Bar Beach and push it off the cliff. That'll be the only 10 it'll ever run...

$5000 says it runs a 10.

Thanx Ben!

what's gonna be done about traction? there'd be next to no weight on the rear.

There is no need for any actual weight on rear wheels with a 4 link. (or relocated leaf mounts, or ladder bars)

There is in the braking area hehehe

We're moving everything we can behind the rear wheels ie battery, radiator, fuel tank, fuel pump etc

Looks like we're gonna run a single mount off the head just like the FWD 4age did. Will have to make some kind of torque mount to prevent the motor "swinging" again like FWD's use.

This was 4wd. The guy before me has replaced the front drums with (I think) Escort discs.

We really need to thank Paul from Budgewoi Wreckers in Kurri Kurri. He is the man for any bogan type parts on 4937 3699.

We're hunting some 13b injectors, a 400hp turbo and a used microtech to suit 4age if anyone can help :)

Give me a buzz re injectors, i may be able to get you some cheapies depending on what my main man Billy has laying around... ;)

And 5k, get farked. You'll spend double that just to make sure i lose... :D
But i'll put a case on it...

Got started on the front mount for the motor this arvo. Mounts set him back $65 for the two. Looks like we are gonna try and run one of the trimatics that came behind 4a's. Wrecker has one for $50. Just gotta make some enquiries re strength and modificationability.
Gonna make a chrome moly rear mount.
Also borrowed an alloy fuel tank from Dale. AWSUM welding on the tank.
Will post photos in the next few days...

Total so far:
Truck $150
Motor $150
Auto $50
Mounts $65 (so far)

is that a standard diff or something special?

Ben Wilson

Wouldn't you be tempted to run solid mounts?

The thing isn't exactly going to be a cruiser and second hand mounts are just going to break...

After looking at this project, I was just wondering why an SR20DE wasn't used? Is it due to the 4AGE's reputation of toughness? It's just that some of the parts you are using could be more easily adapted to a SR20DE and the motors are very cheap nowadays. Plus, you would have another 400cc from factory to play with.

Not nit-picking or anything, I think the project is tops. Good luck with it, I can't wait to see the results :)

After a bit of a look around at the in laws I found a Vitara diff from my old 4b days. I'll sell it to Max at a reasonable rate. I don't wanna fudge the build figures by giving him stuff too cheap. Whatever my wrecker mate would charge for a diff is the price we'll list.

These arent second hand mounts, they are new. The mounting system is not like a normal car. Pics in the next few days will explain it better than I can.

Engineer won't approve anything bigger than 1650cc. I aint a big fan of the SR either...

We're looking at the KKR turbo's for best value for money tho the 25/40's Dale is running would be uber cool.

SR's aren't all that good, you'd use an FJ (if you wanted a datto motor) in something that old if you could get it approved.

Yeah check out the quality of the welding (if you can) definately would retail for $5oo.

Oh this is going to be scary! And I thought strapping a turbo on an HC engine and stuffing in a Hijet was slightly crazy, I would be content with a N/A HC really.

Got into it a bit today. Moved the drivetrain forward another inch to try and get some length in the tailshaft. Started on the rear trans mount. The prob is that the tranny mount is so low and is a decent distance from the chassis. I've rigged up a crossmember and going to have some 200mm long tubes run down from the crossmember to the factory Corolla crossmember. Still need some 10 inch bolts to run inside the tubes so need to wait for those bums at the tool store to open.
Engine sump is only 115mm off the ground with 100 being legal limit. Still got a bit of weight to add so it might be close. Might shave the sump if it gets close as I'd really like to keep the weight down.
Thinking of going with a Hilux diff. A fair bit of weight but weight in the back of this thing can only be a good thing.

thought you were going to use a vitara diff ?

if so you may want to use the 5.11 as its the most common , the 4.3 4.6 and 4.8 are a pain to get especially the 4.3

if you use a 5.11 im sure i could supply you cheap replacements for the cause...

ALLMTR
01-01-07, 06:45 PM
Ended up only having a vit housing. The centre and axles that were with it were out of a sierra. :( I think the 5.13's might be a bit low for this project. We'll get a price on a complete lux diff and the housing/axles and see which way we'll go.

i woundered what my fuel tank was for!! LOL now i know!! im sure my neighbours were thinking im paying off the locals picking up stuff like that while working!! LOL

ill get you a ecu chuck what model is the 4age? bigport or small port? they have different dizzys in them, and the kkr 380 will be a nice turbo for this setup, the 330 is a little small, i can get them as well :)

ALLMTR
02-01-07, 07:26 PM
Hehehe thanx Dale. It's a big port. Gonna run a CAS and individual coils. Max should have the money for a turbo next week. If you can get us a quote on ECU and turbo that would be great.

Hope to get the diff jigged up tomoro. Tailshaft room is gonna be tight :/

Not sure if we're gonna be able to put the power needed thru the Aisin box tho...suppose there is only one way to find out

if your working on monday pop down the shop,

will have a turbo big port with a td04 on it, last time it made 180rwhp on 11psi,

the big ports work a treat!

ALLMTR

last time it made 180rwhp on 11psi,

So on 22 psi it should make 360rwhp....Is that how turbo's work (There is a reason I have a nic of ALLMTR)

03-01-07, 04:48 PM
hahaha this is gunna be fucking awesome....

how about you just move the engine a tad further back and hook the box straight up to the diff?

would give a bit better weight distribution yes?

;)

BigMuz
03-01-07, 05:37 PM
MR Andra doesn't like wheelbase changes- 2 inches is the limit iirc.

ALLMTR
03-01-07, 05:42 PM
Do you mean within classes or in general?

Jim
03-01-07, 05:46 PM
either limit suspension travel at the centre of the diff to an inch, or change to some sort of IRS such as off a VN.... or move the motor forward :P

ALLMTR
03-01-07, 05:52 PM
VN IRS????

I can go back another inch by redrilling the holes for the front spring mount and go another 2 inches by redrilling the hole that locates the diff in the spring pack. Three inches should be enough....or so MRSMTR says.

BigMuz
03-01-07, 05:59 PM
I thought there was a blanket rule to be honest. Don't have any regs here though sorry.

ALLMTR
03-01-07, 06:05 PM
Class rules say no more than 2 inches. I would have thought ANDRA would prefer me to stretch it out a bit. The wheelbase is only just over 6 foot atm

Jim
03-01-07, 06:40 PM
VN IRS????
.

ya? you know, VQ stato and VP etc up to VT, some models had IRS and it's chunky and all on it's own subframe.

ALLMTR
03-01-07, 06:48 PM
Nah gotta keep this thing light, otherwise need more power, which equals more money. Been thinking maybe a ta22 Celica diff which will have a shorter snout. Gotta do some more searching...

Hey i have a daihatsu hijet '86'
same size/style as the carry
looking to rotor it
What size rotor would be suitable?
Where could i source the engine?
Does anyone one know, if it could be done, legally engineered?

last year i built 2 old 1984 taragos 1with a rota in it the other with a rb20 det...the rb was tight ...it had custom volvo diff and big front brakes....the shaft was 280mm from weld to weld and it posed no problems at all .. and this thing used to get flogged every whea....and do ova 200klm.
