Stadium Drift Final Round
April 21, 2007
First time out at Parklands Stadium on the Gold Coast. Great little 2nd gear track, good for refining front and rear depth perception skills (knowing where the edges of the car are). I was cruising for a mistake free finish when Mark (photographer) pulled me aside and said I should "unleash" my aggressive side. A few spins later and I plummeted to finish 12th. THX MARK!!!

Round 2 Night Drift
May 5 2007
Had a good night with a narrow win. Only single car passes were scored for the event, and although I spun (again - twice!!), my average score over the 12 laps was just enough. Attachment is the score sheet for the night.

Good work. White bonnet is a top idea for showing off the winningbid number (any sponsor really), better than the black bonnets on 90% of cars out there.

The white bonnet was really to keep the Panda thing going - here's a pic of my car before reshell:
http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/12/web/2400000-2400999/2400217_18_full.jpg
But you're right the contrast works very well.
Got a ton of camber on the rear because its lowered with no camber arms - a set of new tyres a useless after about 8 laps lol!!
In that last pic I luckily saved the rim somehow from hitting the road.

Round 1 NSW Drift Series
June 3, 2007
Again qualified average (13th) due a spin in one of my qualifying laps. Won my first battle no problems but narrowly lost the top 16 battle due to lack of speed (old tyres). Finished 9th overall.
Started pushing toward the end of the tyre life so I got to make friends with the dirt a bit! Video above was from the expression session and on a non-judged part of the track (turn 1).
All the pics have already been posted above so I won't repost, next major event is the national round at Eastern Creek on July 7-8, so stay tuned for more action!!

I had Amberleys (Horsepower Factory) in Melbourne fit it. They didn't have too many problems, no major chassis cutting required. Just gotta have custom gearbox mounts, custom front swaybar, and the rest was pretty straight forward (so I was told).
Cheers,
Trav
if you use 2Jizzle's mounts (dude in adelaide) you dont need a custom front swaybar :)

Qualified 5th, finished 2nd - first time I've drifted this track. Got through all the battles no problem, ended up having to rerun the final (scores level). On my final chase lap managed to mis-shift (4th-5th instead of 4th-3rd), and then mis-shift into 5th AGAIN when trying to correct!! Grrrrrrr.....

Round 3, Sat Night Drift Comp
July 14, 2007
This time only 8 scored laps instead of 12 (single run only). Have just binned the Toyo R888's (R spec tyre) off the front and replaced with Toyo TPGs. I tried drifting on these tyres about 2 years back but gave up because they had too much grip. Been sitting under the house until now lol.
First set of 4 laps I sucked balls - noob understeering everywhere while getting the feel for the front end. Second set of 4 had it sorted and pulled in some decent laps. Overall finished 5th but scored a trophy for the "Seriously Sick Smoke" award (I think they just felt sorry for me).
Next event is Drift Australia at QR Aug 11, but I'm trying to get a spot in the Parklands Stadium Drift the week before (all spots are taken ffs).

Maybe we can install switchable "DEC*" instead of it being permantly on before DA :p
How was it on the TPG's?
*Driver Error Control
Yeah we had the peddle to the metal in the 2.4L Surf so we would've been little more then a blur.
But we did stop at that famous pie shop place.

Sorry about lack of updates but have had electrical issues with fuel pump (fuse blowing) so have been unable to finish the latest Queensland driftstate round and Stadium Drift events. However, a 30 amp fuse has seemed to solve this problem (i tried zipties and race tape first) and the car is back in action.

ffs i just wrote a massive post and the system logged me out and I lost it all. So here's the short version:
VicDrift Drift Attack @ Winton Sept 8
Qual: 9
Finish: 1
Battled Luke Zietara, Nathan Weisel (DA: Gatorz), Simon Michelmore and Chris Dejager (DA: GFB) in the final, which was rerun 3 times (6 laps all up). Pics are gay I know, but the pro photographer (Thai Tran) hasn't uploaded his shit anywhere I can find.

Oran Park South, NSW
Round 5 Drift Australia
Sept 22-23, 2007
Qualified 8th, finished 7th.
Got promoted to DA so hopefully will get to see some decent footage on TV.
Battled Driftcat (yellow DRiFT S13), Mingay (mat black CAPA VY) and lost to Weirhl (chrome Autosalon S15 - he ended up finishing 1st).
Definately more pressure in DA (even in the practice sessions) but it kind of forces everyone to drive better which is pretty cool. I was struggling to keep up with most of the other cars due to using crappy tyres (Circlings?) and having probably the lowest power output in the field (even the SD cars leave me for dead off the start line lol).
But when has it been different?? Less grip means you kick the clutch further back right?!! yessss...

The boost creeps up over 16psi above those rpm. I was plagued with reliability problems with the previous engine (sr20) so just wanted to avoid a repeat.
ecu will still fuel successfuly was past 16 psi...

To be fair to him at those boost levels the stock turbos are on a death wish.
Last thing he needs mid drift is for a wheel to come off, and get sucked into the motor...
FUCK YOU CT12A'S!!
I still reckon with an SFAC and some time on the dyno, there is another 40hp in it :)
the chance of sucking an exhaust wheel back into a turbo is soooo slim...I think you have to back off the accelerator RIGHT as they pop...and the tiny amount of vaccum in the exhaust generated for a split second can cause it to happen....
sooooooooooooooooo unlikely its not funny...
personally id be hitting up one of the TCT (Team China Turbo) sellers such as hypergear for a full kit, my brother is making 220rwkw on 11psi with a TR44 kit on the stock ecu. on his JZA70R...plenty of midrange too..you would probably be able to get one for fuck all travvy baby...
Stock turbos are for phags anyway :P

Kinda of typical of my luck with cars, because thats exactly what happened to me :)
But yes, China powah all the way. Something small and responsive ie .63 housing ftw.
Indeed, worse still is the replacement motor fired up, ran for 20 seconds, coughed, and died. Bent every valve... on a non-interference motor!!!! WTF!!
And people wonder why I sold that Cressida off? Still love that car to bits though :(
car was clearly cursed...
try again with another JZ at a later date
when they dont break (seeing them break is rare) they are fantastic engines

Then why did Trav pull out? Why did all the other DA guys pull out? If DA are such cunts then why do people want to drift with them? I'm asking this as a genuine question. I was supposed to go to DriftFest and shoot it, but in the end the promises they made didn't eventuate, and it wasn't going to worth the time and money to go.
PandaJZ

DA have tv, and that trumps all of their failings.
Unfortunately they justify this action by saying I'm not supporting DA by competing in driftfest. This is unbelievable as I've competed in so many other events all over Australia and they have never before had an issue:
VicDrift
Initial Drift
Springnats
G1
Q1
Sat night QR
Stadium Drift
Archerfield
NSW series
ffs
The problem is that DriftFest intend to launch a "national" series in 2008 with multiple events.... in effect riding on the shirt tails of Drift Australia. In order to gain more exposure, they will use the "names" that have been built up using DA - if Bolger, Pickering and Wiehrl all went, then they would trumpet how they have the Aussie D1 All Stars competing. Yet they got that chance by running in DA. DriftFest also promised international star drivers which never showed, but it got the interest up. Kudos to them if it works, but I wouldn't expect to see the name drivers in DA used to promote a rival series.
Nothing else you've competed in Trav is a competitor to DA on a national level, it's all State based stuff, so they don't care too much. But when someone is going to launch their own national series using DA drivers, a line has to be drawn.
Nafe sounds to me like youre a bit of a DA supporter
when the only reason they hold so much power is becuase of a 1hr show once a month on SBS...
this event lacked 32 drivers of pure talent...there were some kick ass performances but not untill the top 8...it reminded me of drift comps 2 years ago...
not seeing bolger compete was a highlight for me...his rediculous speed and smoke shows to cover his crappyness was something that was pleasantly refreshing not too see
as for pickering and wheirl not being there well I dont see how they owe DA for becoming good...last I checked pickering was winning comps and wowing crowds with his agressive style since way before DA...
too say that Drift Fest owes DA becuase its "riding its coat tails" then maybe DA owes Full Lock seeing they had the first national competition and then full lock owes JMS becuase they had the first comp at port gawler
what a joke...

Fact: Bolger, Pickering and Wiehrl would not have been at the D1 World All Stars had it not been for the Drift Australia competition.
Fact: Drift Australia is a CAMS-recognised National Championship. The winner is recognised as the Australian Drift Champion.
Fact: DriftFest tried to get Drift Australia drivers into their event. Why? Because they are now well-known, seen on TV drivers. Of course that's using the success of DA to promote themselves and promote their own National Series.
Yes, I am a Drift Australia supporter. I shoot for them, and I supported them with the NSW Drift Series as photographer and sponsor. Why? Because I am also supporting the drivers as well. I've known Ferds for a while, I also support Weissel, Easton, Mackie, Gibbs, and Trav too.
I also supported DriftFest by supplying an image for them to use for initial promotions for the event.
The people I see whingeing the most about DA are the ones who have no connection and don't compete in it. The guys in it who have bought the licences, who are out there competing are the ones who are bringing the sport into the mainstream. The announcement of major new sponsors of teams, new teams, new drivers, new cars etc all point towards the growth of Drift in Australia. Do you think Autosalon and Industrie, Dickies and TRD (yes, TRD are sponsoring Beau Yates' Sprinter in 2008) are all doing it because DA are such pricks?

Stadium drift was national (AIR) this year and will be national next year. In fact the event is called Stadium Drift Nationals.
What I'm saying is DA decided to hold me to a higher standard of the blue. They are anticipating that I will sign to DA for 2008, but are applying the contract rules retrospectively, which is complete rubbish.
Will just have to go hard next year to make up for it.
Does this mean DA for 08 Trav? First round is meant to be at Symmons.... not sure the 300C is up to the trip :D
are all doing it because DA are such pricks?
no
they are doing it becuase thats where the money is
but by DA saying "you guys cannot compete in drift fest otherwhise you wont be welcome back to DA" is fucking blackmail mate..as trav has stated, they are enforcing contract restrictions BEFORE the contract has been signed...its the biggest series in drifting in this country and its also the one that has sucked the most fun out of the sport...
btw i noticed you mentioned that the ones that give the series shit are the ones not competing in it...on internet forums this is the case
in person...well thats a whole nother story...
fuck DA...if I was gonna blow $40K cruising around the country competing in a drift series then DA/SD would be my last choice of event.
back on topic...trav youre a sick cunt and this car rules...
go hard next year mate, in whatever series youre in I know you will rip shit up :D
Guys in person giving shit to DA keep coming back. So either they have a problem or they see the benefits to outweigh any drawbacks. End of the day that balance shifts to either making it worth it or not. So far majority say it's still worth it.
But when someone is going to launch their own national series using DA drivers, a line has to be drawn.
That's a crock of shit, You can't say the drivers owe DA without saying that DA owes the drivers.

Why did you have to pull out?
because he didnt wanna get pregnant
There is not enough room in Australia for two national drift series.
One of them will die in the ass, the other one will be DA. Not because it will necessarily be better, but because they hold all the right cards at this point in time.
This is the main reason for the drivers going back - its the known series with TV coverage.
Ive heard several drivers bag the shit out of the DA's rulings, standards, etc etc, but they want to drift nationally, so where else can they go?
There is not enough room in Australia for two national drift series.
I call bullshit on that comment...Stadium drift is going national in 2008 and so is Drift Fest, Stadium drift is entirely different to DA with its single runs and more technical focus, the fact it has actual prize money offers more for the drivers as well...
Drift Fest was just a fucking awesome time and I cant wait for the Adelaide event...I had a ball in melbourne and I reckon the 8000 others that went to watch did too...
fuck drifting for TV coverage 2 weeks later...id rather drift for the day and get my hands on some lovely prize money :)
You need big dollars to run a professional series - I just dont see it being there yet for two series....
End of the day my personal views aside, I'd say DA is in the box seat.
(my personal view is that there is a couple of retards involved in DA who need to go fuck themselves - and im not talking drivers)
yeah but youre forgetting that not everyone wants an uber professional series with basically less fun, less drifting and more costs...leave that to the 32 people that want to drop $60 grand a year on drifting...
Honestly I dont belive that its gonna get to the stage where drivers get 1/4 of a million dollar contracts to drive for a season like V8 supertaxis are...hell even D1 drivers all have day jobs...
Not sure where anyone even hinted that drivers or teams were going to make some big $$ out of drifting at any level........ ???

Bob Saget
10-04-08, 12:58 PM
We are in a spot atm. Trav's car now has a 3037 :D... but also features a dead ECU.
He would of been in a great position this weekend, with good power around 270rwkw, good supply of Federal tyres, full pit crew, fresh engine and his complete lack of fear ..
If anyone has a 1JZ Powerfc we can borrow for the weekend (we will compensate you ;) ) We would forever be in your debt. Even if you have one we can buy.
Craig.
Someone get the man a PowerFC ferchrisssake!
important questions
what model 1j is it - jzx81 90 100?
If its 81, game over, pfc dont exist as all where factory auto
If its auto 90, game over, even with the manual conversion apexi never did one to match you pin outs on the ecu/loom
Even then I believe there is differences between jzx90 and jzz30 ie chaser and soarer loom/ecu combos.
You could almost go close to tuning it with a stock ecu and safc if you get deseprate. The newest SAFC's have more reference points then the older ones.
Good luck mate.

Well we got the car running, some of the ECU functions don't work ie. Fuel Pump and some of the hand controller stuff, but the car does run.
We'll see if the ECU will take a tune tomorrow, when it gets tuned for the new turbo. We just finished giving the car a new paint job. We like to make sure everything is done well before each round :p

Everything is great car is running sweet, making huge power, we are in for a good weekend.
If we can get the fuel out of the radiator and the coolant out of the fuel tank and get the wastegate unsiezed, install a boost controller, install some kind of engine breathing and heatshielding.
Car did run on the dyno for all of about 2mins, made 120rwkw @ 4100rpm on an unchanged tune.

needs some pinstriping over the transition of silver/black, looks better than the previous paint, but umm not quite show car.. ;) also doesnt take kindly to petrol spills :P
engine issues were minor and the ecu was fine, but due to rushed connection.
* ecu plugged in incorrectly
* Map sensor was not seated correctly
* map sensor not connected to plenum correctly (leaking)
* hand controller not displaying temperature only due to water temp sensor being jammed between timing cover and not plugged in
* fuel leak from perished fuel feed
* fuel return incorrectly plumbed via idle-up control valve (very safe mixing water with fuel)
* radiator return from idle up plumbed into fuel return (woo)
* draining of coolant from fuel tank and fuel from radiator
* no breathers, resulting in pressurised cam cover
and an array of other problems due to rushed work ultimately resulting in long diagnostic of problems, and still heaps of stuff to do, but best of luck to trav. stucks things took so long to get finished :(

Todays problems;
Thermostat required replacing
Fuel pump dieing
Fuel feed line exploding when new pump fitted
Not being able to tune the car
Due to the rushed nature of the car prep, spark plugs were not replaced and where loose causing the car to run on 3-4cyl when at the track. Once we put new plugs in Trav managed to do one qual lap on 10psi with a 5000rpm rev limit (good enough for 56th lol)
The boost controller sol coming loose and fall under the car and Trav running it over
The dump being too close to the powersteering lines, boiling the fuild after 1 lap.
Good points from today;
We did 3 laps of QR and qualified =15th
Drift Cat's Mechanic tuning the car for us on at the track after DA finished (10spi, 7500rpm).
We have more tyres than we could possiably use tomorrow
We now have more power, grip and adjustability than ever before
The car is going to spend all night in the workshop fixing some problems, ie. Wrapping the dump pipe, fixing some wiring, fitting a powersteering cooler, fixing up the boost controller, tidying some vacum lines we had to rush fit ect..
Luke Fink's Silvia is in there too getting some bearings replaced. Dodgy datsuns :p Alot of people didn't make it through the day, not that we got to see it since we arrived at the track around 3pm.
If all goes according to plan, we will re-tune for 20psi/7500rpm at the track tomorrow morning and see what we can do during the day, watch out for Trav in the big entry comp :D.
I'm going to get some fucking sleep.

Gearbox isn't staying either, we are doing something pretty awesome there, so that the car can be used on American tracks with big banks.
Big thanks to Option 1 Garage, they really pulled the thing together.
For the record Trav really isn't right in the head, it took him 3 laps to throw a car he had never driven into the first corner at Oran and this thing has some serious grip. I knew the cunt was good, but jesus. On Sunday he was going door to door with Afro.
It was a shame, we couldn't run much grip in the rear as we had hoped, we didn't have enough power :oh: So we didn't have the drive we wanted out of the corners. Won't take much to fix.
Handbrake was working, it just took Trav awhile to figue out where it was :p
We had a minor clutch issue in Qual 1 on Saturday, fixed it pretty quickly.
The car is far from done, when it is, fuck me it's going to be something.

Nice lookin tyre.
Ours last 3 laps.
Yeah; well mine only last two laps so suck my cock.
Pardon the almost month later threadomancy, just wanted to say it was rather impressive to see both in the pits and on the track at Oran Park.
Pity the stupid camera car tagged it slightly.

Nice specs. Sounds like it's going to be a weapon when sorted. I like the American track bit.

What?
Ahh, Trav spun in his chase lap in the re-run following Darren Appleton, and the RX7 camera car which had been sitting about 1m back from the action got involved and tagged the front end a little bit.
Which lead to some confusion from where I was watching on pit wall, as it appeared that the camera car could have tapped Trav and caused the spin, but it wasn't until trav had spun that the camera car tagged him.
Bit hard to judge where it was in all the smoke from both cars...
Rumour has it this thing has been binned and not on the track...
No idea, haven't spoke to the boys for a while. Shame if it's true.
