Primo! I love it.

Be a man and put a 1UZ-FE in it.

You never see these on the road anymore......................

My first car was an RA40, I flogged the living shit out of it and it look the abuse. We did the following to it:
- New 2 pack job, well painted only let down by my lack of skill in prepping the car
- Big stereo
- King springs and Monroe shocks, full rebuilt front end
- Rebuilt engine
- 32/36 DGV weber (for fully sick induction howl)
- 2 1/4" exhaust

It still kinda shits me that I only got $1200 for it when I sold it. I harbour thoughts about building one with a 1uzfe and a manual as a track car. I still can't get over how much abuse the thing stood up to, thank god for Toyota over engineering everything.

yeh my first car was a RA40 coupe with the plastic bumpers was white though. bought it with a 18r-geu in it not knowing anything about it, after it did a big end bearing after a 7000+rpm excursion i knew about them and how much they cost to fix.
learnt a lot with that car, like it will beat an EH wagon with a 186, yella terra head and holley and exhaust.

and dont hold your foot on the brake too hard when doing a burnout because the pressure plate gets hot and snaps in half.

18RGU - nice motor, the yamaha head flows quite well.
Absolute prick to get parts for though, but worth it, they're almost a collectors item engine.

Nice first car, reminds me of building my capri when I was your age - it's good to see you're not just buying a silvia/commodore/skyline like every other young un.

when i had my 18R-G toyota still had genuine parts outa japan. i do remember it was something like $280 for a singe cam chain tensioner runner.

i put new rings on it too, no one realy made them to fit the 18r-g because they had a different thickness ring grooves to the 18r-c, i think i ended up using 2nd oversize camry rings from a v6 on the standard pistons. took a bit of searching through the ACL E-book.

this is the pre emission 18r-g u in toyo7a language is japan emissions
it also has 9.7:1 comp pistons and the most aggressive cam profiles of all 18rg engines (18r-gu 18r-geu etc)

yeah its good doing something different :)

What induction are you using, I think I still have the wiring diagram from when I put an 18RG in to an RA40 liftback using the factory injection system. Weird fact for the day, the 2TG wiring is identical and you can swap over the computers between a 2TG and 18RG without any noticable difference.
