1st off be nice :)
Alright, my brother has just been given my grandfathers car as his 1st car, and he wants to sell it.
Details.......
1979 Datsun 200B GX Auto
51,000 Km's
Pale Yellow with Vinyl Roof
Located on the Gold Coast
absolutely perfect condition inside and out, garaged all it's life with short trips to the shops and doctors all of it's life.
any idea's where the best place to sell it
The 'general populace' will be about as interested in it as I am ... ie. not. :)
IMHO your brother's a bit of a tool though. First car, freebie, with family connections & memories -> "it's not the right colour, I'm going to sell it & buy a Silvia".
If you contact the club you may be lucky & get a few thousand from someone who's really keen to get a mint 200B. Just generally advertised in the paper, though, it's still only going to be worth a few hundred, despite the condition - you really need to find an enthusiast of the Datsun or Nissan brand to get any sort of premium for a car nobody liked in the first place.

Forg, thx for the comments but I want constructive comments only please
My brother does not want a Silvia or any other dorifto type ricer, he's not into cars at all. He doesn't want the car cause it drives like a 1979 Datsun, so he wants to sell it and get something that feels like it will stay on the road.
This is a bit of a collectors car because of it's condition, that's why I'm asking for advice not stupid comments.
look at these for more of the sort of info I was after

Constructive enough?
You should get at least 10k for it. don't listen to Forg, he got no idea.

My English doesn't suck that badly but what part of Forg's comments wasn't constructive? If you've already found constructive comments elsewhere, then why be a posting whore?
FWIW, it's worth maybe $50 at Simsmetal if you're lucky.
if it were a sss 2 door, itd be worth a bit of a motza.
but otherwise...
swap it for a pushbike.
so after you found that an identical one that sold for $1600 at a collectable auction, and you are here asking how much we think it would be worth, and someone gives you advice and you fire up.
F*ck is it school holidays already?

Eightball says you will recieve eleventy billion and 1110ne11 dollarz for this car
:roflcopter: WHY IS THERE NO ROFLCOPTER??? ARRRRRRAARRARARGGGHHH!
500 bucks if it had a full year's rego on it.
and that's the gods honest truth.
Forg speaks the truth.
Sometimes the truth hurts.
If you want to see really negative and non-constructive comments, just keep up the attitude.
Anything like that car will have a severely restricted fan base, and basically anyone who isn't a fan or having some other connection to the car will be looking to pay more like the simsmetal price. That's fine, don't sell the car to those people. But equally don't be too surprised when others pay out on such a car, eat a cup of cement and HARDEN THE FUCK UP.
A bit of good natured ribbing is considered essential in the PF world, so get used to it or go somewhere else.
Back to the 200B. 51000km, only went to shops/doctors yada yada. When was the last time it saw a mechanic. Did it sit for a long time. Maybe it just needs some renewal/adjustment of suspension components or even just tyres. You say that he'd like it to feel like it will stay on the road, that doesn't sound like an inherent design problem, it sounds like a maintenance problem to me. In RACQ? They will do vehicle checks, where they list the things that need to be done to fix a car. Usually for the buyer of an unknown car, but would be a good starting point to decide whether it was worthwhile keeping a car, and if the check is positive also a selling tool. ie Its had a vehicle check and only needs X and Y done to it.
When you can purchase a 1999 model car (20 years newer) for only a few thousand, it has to be for love of the model if anyone is going to pay very much for it, so go looking for enthusiasts.
Note, so far I don't think you've found any here. ;)
Oh and just in case. In on 1.

I'm a Datto enthusiast - I hate to break it to you but Forg gave you the brutal honest truth. Your reaction speaks volumes about your character (ie: you are a fuckhead)
IF it was a mint 1600 or 240/260Z, it would be worth some real coin, like $5-10K
IF it was a mint 1200 coupe or Ute, it would be worth some decent coin, like $3-5k
It isn't - it's a 200B - not even Datto enthusiasts like them, other than to steal the engine & put it into their shitter 120Y/Stanza - but this one doesn't even have a manual behind it so it is pretty useless.
Sorry, it's reality - don't like it, go smoke some cones & GTFO my internets
I have $9.70 on me.I was going to get my lunch with it but maybe I could buy your bros car instead?
Edit :And I want change.About $10 should bo it.

Kinda says it all really. Joined up to sell his car/mates cordia. Posted again 2 years and 10 months later to get unrealistic valuation for brother's hand-me-down car. In between about 14 posts, most in off topic.
Still, has contributed one of the more entertaining threads I have read today. :D
Even if he did diss the forg.
Actually, we should all take it in turns to diss the forg every day, just to add some fun threads.
"diss the forg" sounds like a euphemism
How long is a piece of string?
twice the distance from the middle to the end.
twice the distance from the middle to the end.
wrong.
it's half the diameter of a circle made when one end is stationary and the other is rotated around it.
"diss the forg" sounds like a euphemism
Hmmmm. The mind boggles.
Any idea what it means. Perhaps 'to reply petulantly when given sound but unpalatable advice' :D
C'mon guys, lets get some real value out of this thread.

From my POV the daily dissing proportion wouldn't increase appreciably, so feel free.
As a euphemism, I think it probably involves one of those toilets with a sink in the cistern, a karcher, and a stuffed olive. But maybe not.
Maybe if he knew I've sunk tends of thousands into about the only car on the road less desirable than a 200B he'd have reacted differently?

Sadly, the 200B market peaked in '78 at a bit under $7,000. Market forces such as the introduction of the Bluebird and rust caused the 200B to crash to below the $4000 mark, and many people with 200B stock lost a lot of money.
200B stock continued to slide to it's lowest point of $-100 in '92. Since then the 200B value has clawed it's way up to a wildly fluctuating range of $200 to $2000, greatly caused by quality and lack of quantity of stock, and low buyer volume.
No dividends have ever been paid for 4dr auto 200B stock.
200B performance is in stark contrast to 240Z stock, and to a lesser degree 260Z and 1200 ute and coupe stock.
Hope this helps. :)

i'm in a similiar position myself, only instead i have a '78 sigma instead of a 200B. the car's not pristine anymore (just clicked over 200K kms) but it's still in excellent condition & nice to drive despite the age.
i reckon i'd get around $500-1000 for it (being a top-line SE and being a 5-spd helps) but even then i'd rather keep it.
so anyway, as far as this 200B goes, your brother may as well keep the thing 'til someone who may actually want such a car (such as an datto collector or some such) comes along. if he or she offers $1000 for it, just take the money.

I have a painfull confession to make :(
And its that I actually wanted a 200B sooo bad as my first car, my only saving grace however was that it was the 1981 SX Model which I reckoned looked damn cool...check it out, Page 5 of the brochures

In reality and after a few test drives, they drove like shit, and even only 6 years old finding one that was'nt rusted out was a mission in itself.

Completely biased report. You failed to mention that their values were unaffected by the classic/supercar value crash of the early 90s and unaffacted by the fuel price scares of the early 00s. Thus neglecting to mention that modern day investment in yellow automatic 200Bs will yield very low loss depreciation losses.

Well I must be insane as I like the shape of the 200B, especially the SSS coupe. Just because they were a family sedan, there are many Datsun enthusiasts who do genuinely like the 200B. And the SSS is one of the rarer vehicles in the Datsun community. I've enjoyed all the years I've had my 200B, I can tell you I won't be selling it anytime soon. Is Northcote near Ipswich?
200B SSS coupe is a far cry from the vehicle being discussed. The SSS is worth owning due to the rarity factor, but a common 200B is about as rare and desirable as herpes.
im gonna take a look at the car and see what its like.
i like driving old cars, its a good 2nd car to have kicking around.
as for looks, im not a fan, but mechanically they are a good thing. the jatco's are unbreakable (almost), the engines are simple and cheap, the body's can be very good, usually very bad though.
if its cheap, how can i go wrong.
