Well, here it is...

White Fiat X1/9
1300 sohc, 4 speed, stock apart from lightened flywheel and regatta gear ratio
Dallara fibreglass panels
Arbath bootlid (will eventually be Dallara)

There's a bit of a history to it, two were originally towed out of a friend's back yard

They were stripped, the red one with the crunched front was pillaged and then sold for scrap, the green (primer yellow) one has now become the racer.

There's a whole lot more detail on the build on our Eltham Racing Blog (http://elthamracing.wordpress.com/).

 I was expecting something about an F3 car.

Looks like you're having fun. Good work :) Car looks tidy too.

Good work, nice cars and great progress blog.
Eltham, as in out Hurstbridge way?
I think I live on the same road as the guy who owns the red and yellow car on the attached pic. I have been meaning to say hello.

Owned one as a first car. By owned I mean a stock 1500 5spd not a race car.

Too bad the engine bits aren't readily available, unless there's a secret foundry in Italy somewhere.

A replica has been getting around up here for a decade or more as well.

Thanks guys,

Cal, I've been told by a few reputable people (who have had a few tries) at making a 2L X, and all have said that the weight distribution is ruined and the car becomes too back heavy especially for track work, and the trade off for the power isn't worth it. But jeez they'd go like a cut cat(600 kg w/up to 250hp)

Lurch, yeah the red one's Peters. Poor guy's been in the wars apparently lately, throwing 'boxes and motors and all sorts.

Brent, the red and yellow one's an Arbath replica. It was built in Hurstbridge in John Black's workshop for his father. He's helped us heaps with our build.

We rebuilt the Dellorto's we got off ebay today, ended up being a bit easier than I thought. Only took a few hours. I wrote a full walkthrough on the Dallara Shop Diaries (http://elthamracing.wordpress.com/) for anyone's interest.

Also got some carby cleaner in my eye. Bloody hurt, and my pride was injured severely as the neighbours kids had a good chuckle at my efforts to irrigate using the pressure nozzle on the hose...

A friend of ours down this way built up a X1/9 with the Lancia 2ltr in it.
Wasn't as high revving as the smaller motors, & he terrible trouble keeping bearings in it - even after baffling the sump, modifying the pickup & doing machining to the crank. Ian (the owner/builder) said the only way to cure it would be to dry-sump it.
Food for thought...
